Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Urbani.
Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hello! My name is Sarah, most call me Fae. I am from Michigan and have lived in Arizona for the last four years. I have been Modeling and doing makeup since I was 20 years old. I started in High school, I was in Art classes up until I graduated. I loved to draw, doodle and create. I have always been the artistic type of person.
After high school, I took some figure drawing classes to help improve my skills, as well as shading and basic art. It helped me greatly to enhance myself. After that, I was asked to apprentice with makeup and prosthetic artist that used to work in Hollywood in Michigan. We made masks, teeth, prosthetic, and did some airbrushing, etc. I worked him for a year until he passed away.
I then started self teaching myself, doing more creative based shoots, more makeup and everything just started flowing from there, I took drawing on paper to drawing on faces and Bodies. I have been published in a few magazines in the last seven years for both my makeup and modeling, I do it mainly on myself if I cant find others to do it on, but I hope that will change and I can build more clientele and more paying clients as this year goes on.
I’m just a girl trying to fulfill my dreams and share my art with people, its what makes me smile, its what makes my blood flow and makes me thrive!Dare to be Different.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, everyone seems to want free work, people are flaky and money is a struggle. Being a freelance makeup artist is different than a licensed one. I hope to get my license in the next two years but alas money is a struggle that most of us face.
We’d love to hear more about your art.
Makeup is primarily my form but I also enjoy modeling alone to promote it or with others as well. I do zombies, Faeries, skeletons, creatures, elves, I am very creative and feel my art speaks for itself.
What were you like growing up?
Always had an imagination, always lived in another world or made up stories. I guess my makeup does the same thing now.
