Meet Sarah Stidham of Sarah Stidham Beauty in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Stidham.

Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always had an interest in all things beauty. Even since I was a young girl. When I was 5 I was playing beauty salon and chopped one of my friends hair off. Haha my mother was not too happy about that. As I grew older I thought that hair and makeup wasn’t a legit career and I probably couldn’t make any real money. I was wrong! After a couple semesters at mcc I decided to follow my dreams and go to cosmetology school. I fell even more in love with all things beauty. Right after I graduated I got an assisting job at Puccis salon in Scottsdale Az where I assisted some amazing stylists! I learned so much and worked long long hours. I got married in 2014 to my sweetheart and then branched out and started working at Sachi salon also in Scottsdale, Az. ThereI continued to perfect my craft and build my clientele. I loved doing hair so it didn’t feel like a job even though I was working 10-12 hour days! In 2016 I had my first son, Dean. I always knew once I had children I wanted to cut way back on hours in the salon so I could be the best mother possible. So I decided to leave the salon, do house calls, event hair, makeup and of course family and friends. I started doing a couple weddings here and there and found a new passion. Wedding hair and makeup. I then took classes on just updos and became Mac Pro certified. I love continuing my education any chance I get. I slowly started booking more and more weddings. I am so incredibly grateful for all of my friends, family, and past clients who have passed my name along because I havent had to do any marketing. Because of all my supporters I am almost fully booked until summer of 2020! Looking back I am shocked that I am now living my dream! I had our second baby boy Coe in May of 2019 and I get to stay home with both my boys and work weekends while their dad is home. Such a blessing!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Is it ever a smooth road? Haha I am very lucky and blessed but everyone has trials and tribulations. When I was working at Sachi salon I was let go by someone I was working with and that forced me to go out on my own. I was terrified that I wouldn’t have a big enough clientele to make enough money or fill my days. But I am now grateful I was forced to branch out and start on my own because it’s the reason I am where I am today with my business. All while trying to build my clientele my husband and I were trying to start a family. Even more so than being a cosmetologist my dream was to become a mother. With 3 miscarriages that dream seemed not possible and took away from my work a ton. I was emotionally, mentally and physically exhausted and was discouraged. I didn’t see any progress in my business as a stylist and was heartbroken over losing those 3 lil angels. I learned that faith, Hard work, patience and perseverance are key. We now have two beautiful boys and I have a thriving growing business. I really learned to Never give up hope and never stop dreaming. I am living my dream! Stay at home mom all week and Work on the weekends while dad is home.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a professional hair and makeup artist that specializes in natural beauty. I love making a person feel stunning yet naturally beautiful. It’s so important for them to still feel like themselves. Nobody wants to feel self conscious or covered in thick, cakey makeup on their special day. I take pride in being able to make you feel beautifully flawless and feel completely like yourself. Which gives you confidence for such an important, special day.

What were you like growing up?
when I was a little girl I was incredibly shy! If you know me now you wouldn’t believe that but I totally was. Always hiding behind my moms leg didn’t like talking to people I didn’t know. As I got older I became more confident and I think that’s all thanks to my mom for putting me in dance growing up. I grew to love being on stage and getting all dolled up. I danced competitively and in school until I was about 18. I am now not shy one bit and some may say I don’t ever shut up. Haha I love talking to new people getting to know them and their story. I am definitely a people person. I love being with family and friends. I may occasionally take a dance class here and there and it’s a total crack up. Haha there’s a big difference from taking a dance class when I was 16 to taking one now at 29. But I love it!
