Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Johnston
Hi Sarah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been fascinated with humans and the human experience. What I noticed was people really struggle to ignore the noise and forget a path that truly works for them. It can be very easy in the world today to think critically about yourself and your situation. You try something you see someone else does and wonder why it is not feeling successful for you. My path to become a performance coach was a slow burn. I was getting certifications and doing work alongside a corporate career for 4 of the 12 years I spent in corporate.
What initially started out as performance coaching in a fitness sense, I quickly learned that someone wanting to start a fitness journey has similar foundational needs as someone wanting to make a life change in any way. It also applies to businesses trying to ensure they are set up for success. I scaled out my business to become a performance coach specializing in personal and professional growth. I took my work with growing my business alongside my corporate career to build a framework for people.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ha! NO! Like any business, I have experienced my fair share of challenges. I have pivoted my offer suite, had to have hard conversations with myself on what I am offering and how I am showing up, and had to work through the highs and lulls that businesses can experience. Entrepreneurship can be a lonely road, especially when you are just starting out and often don’t have a team. I have had to be resourceful, scrappy, and learn a lot along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a ex corporate girl turned personal and professional coach. I am passionate and love helping people and organizations find systematic and tailored approaches to help them achieve their goals. I focus on the full picture and recognize that we as people are so interconnected. I start with building the house before we paint the walls. I love finding clear process and pushing people to release fear, doubt, and the mindset piece that often comes along with a growth journey.
For individuals, I work with my clients on tackling the next goal or life change on their plate. Weather they want to start a new fitness journey or have an overhaul in their life, I help provide the structure for then to get there.
For businesses or teams, I am focused on collaboration and helping the team/business thrive. I have a strong operational mindset to help foster the today into long-term success. I aim to create ease, harmony, and outcomes. It is again about structure, organization, and clarity in how we operate with each other.
What I am proud of is my ability to connect with people. It is one of my super powers.
My core values are are the same for anything I do:
INDIVIDUALITY:Tailored approaches for unique people and projects
FORWARD THINKING:Long-term solutions, not quick fixes
EMPATHY:Supportive guidance through challenging changes
ORGANIZATION:Creating harmony and ease in your journey
COLLABORATION:Uniting minds to listen, learn, and execute effectively
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Putting yourself out there is hard, I get it! I am a huge believer that we can learn something from anyone that we meet. If we sat down with just about anyone for 15 minutes we would realize we are more alike than not.
I have had success finding local groups that are in my wheelhouse to connect with. I have also been open to attending events or other networking opportunities in person.
Talk to everyone. Share your story. LISTEN to theirs! Mentorship is not just talking about you. It is about the mutual respect of listening to each other.
I am a huge preacher of community and not having to do life alone. Within my programs and offerings, I aim to have people talk more and connect more. We are better together than alone.
