Meet Sarah Dolloff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Dolloff.

Sarah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey to the present day has been one with many twists and turns. As I was graduating high school I thought I had my ideal path already paved and waiting for me, but never knew I was going to veer off in so many different directions. I started in culinary school, aspiring to be a chef, but after 1 year I figured out that definitely wasn’t for me. I transferred schools and found myself at Boston University, majoring in Health Science with a concentration in Pre-Medical studies. I had decided I wanted to be a doctor now. I graduated from BU and got accepted into Naturopathic Medical School in Tempe, AZ. I moved across the entire country without knowing a single soul in this new state- but when I set my sights on something, I always get it done.

After completing a year and a half of medical school I again found myself at a crossroads. I still wasn’t feeling fulfilled and my true passion was still pulling my attention elsewhere. A couple of days before a big milestone exam in ND school, I lost my grandmother. She was the driving force behind all of my achievements, and the person who inspired me most in life. I found myself absent and confused, searching for some sort of direction. I ended up leaving medical school and taking six months to not only heal my soul but to decide what it was that brought me the most joy in life.

Here I was again, at another new school, now studying Clinical Aesthetics at Imaj Institute in Scottsdale, AZ. I discovered that helping others feel beautiful, loved, and accepted in their own skin was what filled me up and reignited the flame in my soul. I could use the amazing knowledge of the human body that I had spent years learning, while also helping people conquer some of their biggest insecurities in life, their appearance.

I realized quickly that people’s external appearance affects their mental state, their self-confidence, their relationships, everything. And although I wasn’t healing their sicknesses or their injuries, I was still healing a huge portion of who they are as a person.

I started working at BlueStone Therapy in Scottsdale right out of school. Currently, I’m an independent contractor at BlueStone Therapy working alongside two massage therapists and two naturopathic physicians where we have created a unique team of individuals that work on healing clients physically, mentally and emotionally. Our team is able to work with people on their internal health and external health- which is not common in the Aesthetics industry. We have created a studio of partnership and synergy without competition and rivalry which is also so very rare in this industry.

Present-day, I am thriving working out of BlueStone Therapy, I am about to graduate ANOTHER school, this time for Medical Assisting, which will compliment my work in the aesthetics field wonderfully, and I am happy. This will be my 4th degree/license and I don’t regret a single one of them, because they have all filled pieces of me, coming together to create the person I am today, and I am darn proud of her!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not the smoothest road I’ve ever traveled.

Failed exams, lost jobs, deaths of loved ones, outgrowing of friends- they’re all setbacks placed in my path but that’s life. Failure brings appreciation of success and teaches lessons that are necessary in becoming a strong and compassionate human. I’ve never met a single person who has made it through life without a single failure. I really believe in the mindset that struggles are placed on your path to make you stronger not to prevent you from succeeding. If you want something bad enough, there isn’t a single struggle strong enough to hold you back.

We’d love to hear more about your practice.
As a Clinical Aesthetician, I work on all things skin. I help people struggling with acne, people struggling with the signs of aging, people with uncontrolled hair growth, and basically anyone with a face.

What makes me different, is the pure amount of knowledge I have to apply in my practice. I have loved school my whole life and it has always been an area in which I excelled. Between honors classes and summer studies, I have spent so much of my life learning. Currently, in my Medical Assistant program, I have received six Campus Directors List awards for maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and 2 Top Student of the Class awards for clinicals and didactic classes. My intelligence is something I am most proud of in myself, and in my practice, and it is most certainly what sets me apart from others in this industry.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
The definition of success I have always most resonated with is “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” said by the great Maya Angelou. So many people aim for monetary things as markers of success and for me personally that’s just a small portion of “success”.

When I can love myself completely, give myself and my family everything we need, make a positive difference in the world, and be proud of the life I created- then I will be successful.
