Meet Sarah Burnap

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Burnap.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey first began when I joined the Marine Corps when I was eighteen. Before I joined, I had interests in sports and mentorship, but I never pushed past my comfort zone. Joining the service helped me to test my mental fortitude and discover what I am made of. As much as I learned from my time in the Marine Corps, I wanted to discover more about who I am and what I want in life.

That is when I discovered my passion for exercise. I loved to lift weights, and the results that I saw from the gym helped me to feel strong and confident. Lifting was a stress relief for me, and I loved it so much that I wanted to help others on their journey. Shortly after my first figure competition, I became a cheerleading coach and personal trainer. What I loved the most about personal training was that it was a career where I could help people to create healthy habits and improve their quality of life.

This was when I realized that I had a passion for helping people to transform their life. After a few years of working as a personal trainer, I started to look for other ways to help others. I began to soak in everything that I could about helping people to get out of their own way so that they can get what they want in business, family, health, and wealth. I love to see people win, and I want them to have clarity about what they want in life, the confidence to pursue their ambitions, and the drive and focus to achieve them.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Where do I start?! There were many obstacles once I started my entrepreneurial journey but there was one pivotal moment that I will never forget. I remember my very first gig as a performance coach. I was a new mom when I first started coaching, and I was nowhere near ready to depart from my 3-month-old daughter. I booked my first gig where I would be doing a presentation to a group of teenage girls and decided that it would be a good idea to bring my daughter with me and have someone watch her in the back room while I spoke. I was in the backroom about to speak when I felt something running down my leg. It was poop! Not mine though. I had my daughter in my lap and needed to breastfeed her before I started.

I just paused. I had no idea what I was going to do, and the experience was mortifying. That’s when I had some help cleaning up, and then quietly snuck out of the backroom and left before I had the opportunity to meet everyone. It took getting pooped on for me to go back to the drawing board and re-access how I was going about conducting my business! I was a new mother, my husband was deployed, and I wasn’t getting sleep or taking any time for myself. This was when I committed to getting my life in order. Once I got some footing, I designed and created The Goal Setting Planner(thanks to the help of Hannah and the Dyal Studio team). My planner has all of the techniques that I used, and it was made to help other people get in the right mindset and improve their quality of life.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My focus began to shift into helping people to understand the importance of self-improvement and get them to take action so that they can live their life with passion and purpose. Thus, began my new journey as a high-performance mindset coach.

I work with teams and individuals to help them feel in control of their attitude, to see challenges as a good thing, and to help them build and sustain confidence. My mission is to create an environment where people can feel more connected by being open and honest. I teach people how to stress less and pay attention to their internal happenings so that they can trust the process and find financial, relational, physical, social, spiritual, and emotional success.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I can’t express enough how important it is to have people in your corner. I would not be able to grow and expand without their help.

Working with the team at Dyal Studio is where I started. The Dyal team helped me to brand my business and were my mentors for the first year that I launched my business.

I also had supervisors from John F. Kennedy University (Professor Fernando Lopez with The Mental Component, Dr. Hillary Cauthen, and Dr. Bartlett) who provided guidance and advice so that I could give the best quality of service as a coach in the sport psychology field.

My support system grew tremendously when I started to reach out. In January of this year, I started a Mastermind led by James Patrick and it has helped me to make leaps and bounds in my business. Since I made that decision, I have taken on new ventures and started a podcast and youtube channel with my close friends, Alejandra Vasquez, and Amanda Gail.
