Meet Sara Spector of FIT4MOM Central East Valley in Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Spector.

Sara, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a ladder climber. An achiever. On a scale from 1 to 10, I was an 11 for being a workaholic. Work came easy to me and I thrived in it. Then came motherhood. Motherhood with my first child was fairly smooth and I easily transitioned back into work. However, the “work-life balance” conundrum began and my family and my work suffered.

After the birth of my 2nd child, we decided it was time for me to stay home. My days went from running departments and climbing ladders to changing diapers and managing dishes. I found myself lost, under-slept and ultimately facing postpartum depression. I happened to find a mom’s group, FIT4MOM, at a local park and quickly signed up. Thinking I was joining a walking group for moms (with coffee in hand) I was quite shocked when I was asked to move, lift, pull and ultimately work my body in ways I hadn’t done even pre-pregnancy. As challenging as it was, I was also surrounded by other moms that were encouraging me along the way to keep going. I was hooked.

After being a client for just over a year I found myself wanting to give to this village what they had provided to me; a safe environment where I was supported and encouraged to be my most authentic, best version of myself. I soon became an instructor and two years later, a manager. When the opportunity to build my franchise presented itself, I could think of nothing that would fit my desire to help women through the ups and downs of motherhood more than this. I became an owner of FIT4MOM Central East Valley in June 2019.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am a firm believer that anything worth having is never easy, and franchise ownership is certainly no exception. The summer months in Arizona are difficult for a largely outdoor business such as FIT4MOM. Finding indoor locations that will allow strollers is certainly a challenge, and I had a short time to complete the task. I am blessed to be surrounded by other FIT4MOM franchisees who have proven to be an incredible network of women. They have guided me and have been instrumental in helping me get on my feet.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in a small town in Oregon. We were an active family, and could frequently be found on the Alsea or Siletz rivers on any given weekend. Fishing, exploring, swimming and romping around in the forest fill my memories of childhood. In the summers we would walk until we found wild blackberries would pick them for pies, often eating more than what made it into the buckets.
