Meet Sara Mayer of The Joyride Society

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Mayer.

Some of the best ideas come to life over tacos and margaritas and that is exactly where Joyride Society was born. Five like-minded friends got together at Joyride Tacos in Phoenix and discussed their mutual desire to make an impact through giving. We realized that by pooling our funds we had the opportunity to have a bigger impact.

The founders Sara Westfall, Annette Tanori, Brandi Hunt, Sara Mayer, Jennie Elser never imagined our idea would become a trendy movement in AZ, Chicago and CA. Since 2016, we have 27 household memberships comprised of 35 individuals. We have helped four individuals and six organizations with over $13,000 in financial assistance. We also established a dream fund of over $3,000 for future capital projects. We have seen the impact first hand as we present the valuable funds. One woman we helped was minutes away from being evicted when we provided valuable funding. Our impact multiplies as more like-minded people join our movement.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The initial idea was hatched in 2014, we received our 501c3 in 2016. Initially, we struggled with finalizing our paperwork to become a non-profit. The requested documentation was complicated and lengthy. After much hard work and questioning ourselves we finally completed the documentation and were thrilled to receive our 501c3.

Before we gave out our first awards, one of our founders became ill and lost her battle to Leukemia. We were devastated. Brandi Hunt was an intricate force in the creation of the Joyride Society.

Please tell us about The Joyride Society.
We are a non-profit giving circle. We specializing in helping organizations and individuals overcome barriers. This is designed to respond to the emergency needs of the community quickly when the need is great. Finally, we have a Dream fund that is used as saving for future capital projects. We are able to make quick decisions that allow us to respond when the community needs us the most. We also trendy and don’t take ourselves too seriously, we have fun!
