Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Connors.
Hi Sara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into becoming a hairstylist started all the way back at 14…I found myself pregnant and thought I had the world figured out so I dropped out of high school thinking school was the last thing I’d actually need. I ended up having a beautiful baby boy (who is now 20!!) and worked as a server and a few other jobs.
Fast forward a few years and I realized I was going to need an education to get anywhere beyond the nasty words spoken over my life by other people. I got my GED and enrolled at GCC to find that I hated school as much as I did before I dropped out hah. A friend suggested I enroll in cosmetology school since I did her hair at home, and I thought it was worth trying. Who knew I would totally fall in love!?
What seemed like a total random thing, ended up being such a God led path, and I’m forever grateful for where I started because I wouldn’t be who I am, nor where I am now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth, definitely not. Worth it? Without a doubt! I’m beyond grateful that the first salon I interviewed at (A Wild Hair Salon) straight out of school actually hired me! I was so green and nervous and just wanted to be an assistant and learn before ever setting foot behind the chair…My boss had a different plan for how that would go. Christin had a firm belief that you have to jump in and she would have me do any and everything that came in (with her guidance and help along the way). Because of that my confidence GREW. Being able to ask for help and ask questions about what she was doing and why was HUGE and I now realize is not normal in a commission based salon. I’m forever grateful for her guidance!!
In January of 2020 I opened up my own studio salon and loved every minute of it!! It was wonderful until Covid shut down the industry and a lot of salons felt it. I also found out I was pregnant with my youngest little guy, and with that news I actually closed my studio and went back to work at my old commission based salon.
SOOOO getting to open up Connors Collective Hair Studio this year has been like a re-do for me. Again, it has for sure had ups and downs, but I wouldn’t trade anything or change it. I’m so happy to be able to be in business for myself.
We’ve been impressed with Connors Collective Hair Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Connors Collective is a hair salon studio. It’s a one man show over here haha. I’m known for the most amazing and transformative scalp facial! If you’ve never had one, you need one. I also specialize in creating dimensional gray coverage colors.
What sets me apart is my love for the Lord and my desire to make sure every person who sits in my chair feels seen, heard, and loved. I want people to walk into my space and know that it’s different by the peace they feel.
I know most people think of logos and color schemes when you think of branding…But I’m most grateful for how people feel when they leave. As much as I appreciate a good logo and a beautiful website, seeing people’s spirits lifted and countenance changed when they leave my space is EVERYTHING to me. The peace that the presence of God brings is like nothing else and people can feel it.
I would love people to know more about the scalp facials I offer…30 or 90 minutes of a personalized treatment plan, luxurious head massage, custom (clean) products that aid in hair growth/hair shedding/fullness/dry flaky scalp/oil or product build up, and a scalp scope to see a before and after of how the treatment worked.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
