Meet Samuel Crandall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Crandall.

Samuel Crandall

Hi Samuel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My musical interest started when I was much younger when my dad was in a punk rock band called “The Altar Boys.” Watching him tear it up on stage with his friends was always something that I enjoyed watching, and it quickly inspired me to buy my first bass guitar when I was 6 years old. Throughout the years of growing up, I would fiddle around on all of my dad’s instruments. His guitars, his drum sets, keyboards, you name it.

Fast forward to 2021, I started to write and record my own music for the first time. Up until then, I had been in a few bands that recorded demos and EPs, but never had I ever produced my own solo project, which ended up being named “Sr.”As time went by and I kept recording more music, my buddies Micah and David (who are large contributors to the group to this day) kept bugging me to get a group together to play some live shows.

After finally giving in, we’ve released a whole record, played at the biggest music festival in Tucson, and headlined our own gigs. It has been a great journey so far, and we cannot wait to see where it takes us next!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a band, things have been pretty smooth. We all love each other, we all have a great time playing as a group and we hold ourselves and each other accountable. There are certain things that you can’t teach in a band, and that’s how to vibe and get along. Thankfully, we all have similar senses of humor and take our own playing seriously.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have worked in the coffee industry for coming up on 8 years now. I started working with Starbucks back in November of 2016 and really fell in love with everything behind the scenes that goes into making a cup of coffee, from growing to harvesting to processing to roasting and eventually serving it in a cup for people to enjoy. I’m now the assistant manager at Cartel Roasting Co. in downtown Tucson.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am actually legally blind in my right eye! I was born with a defect in my optic nerve that has taken away almost all of my eye’s ability to see anything clearly, and my family didn’t know about it until the first grade. My eye can detect light, but that’s about it. Even corrective lenses can’t fix it, but since I’ve lived with it for my whole life, I wouldn’t know anything different.
