Meet Sammy Clark of Wholesam Designs in East Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sammy Clark.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sammy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my career almost three years ago when I created Sammy Clark Photography. I was 18 years old at the time, and I was so determined to learn how to start a business. I grew my love for photography during high school, and I was so excited to be able to start a business with my passion. I have found that it is so rewarding to be able to grow relationships with my clients and capture special memories for them.

This past month I have expanded my business by opening Wholesam Designs. With this business, I design and sell graphic t-shirts. I design wholesome designs for AZ and cactus lovers. I also design shirts with cute sayings and phrases. I love the creative outlet that my businesses provide me. I absolutely love being able to create a concept and see my vision come to life.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business was definitely not an easy task, but it was very rewarding. I was 18 years old when I first opened my photography business. I knew nothing about running a business, so that was definitely a huge struggle. When I was creating my business, I did a lot of research to learn about all of the legal requirements. I found that Google did not always provide the best answers. Therefore, I reached out to other local businesses to make sure that I completed all of the correct steps. I am thankful and blessed that I have had so many amazing people support me with my business. Although it may seem scary to reach out to someone you don’t know, I believe it is so important to take a chance and make that connection. I have made many amazing friends by taking a chance and messaging them on Instagram. There were many times when companies did not respond, but you never know until you try!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wholesam Designs story. Tell us more about the business.
I am the designer and owner at Wholesam Designs. I sell graphic t-shirts and accessories with original designs. Being an AZ girl, I am inspired by the desert, specifically cacti. I love thinking of creative ways to include cacti into my designs.

I also design shirts with cute phrases. I currently sell “Love Life” and “Choose Kindness” tees. I love these shirts as they provide a reminder to always love life, and always choose kindness!

My “Love Life” design also has a very special meaning to me. September is National Suicide Prevention Month. This is very dear to my heart as I recently lost a family member to suicide. I designed a “Love Life” graphic t-shirt that was made as a reminder to love life and all of the amazing things that it has to offer. During the month of September, I donated 20% of the proceeds from the Love Life t-shirts towards the prevention of suicide. I believe that this is such an important cause that deserves attention. There are so many people impacted by suicide, and I believe it is so important to raise awareness. I was excited to be able to help the cause and continue to raise awareness.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the t-shirt industry continually growing. Graphic t-shirts specifically have become very popular and trendy. I see many Instagram posts with outfits featuring jeans and cute graphic tee. I am excited to see how the graphic tee industry will change and continue to grow in popularity!
