Meet Salman Hasan of Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Salman Hasan

Hi Salman, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Throughout my life, I’ve always utilized my artistic and creative talents and I always loved taking photos. From all the drawings and art I’ve created in grade school to snapping different styles of photos with my flip phone and all the iPhones I had, I’ve never really stopped my creative work. Then in 2015, I got a little bit more dedicated when I got my first DSLR camera and took photography courses at the Los Angeles Center of Photography. I learned everything from the basics of handling a camera and taking beautiful pictures to contracting and how to attract clients.

I started small by taking photos at birthday parties and community events. Slowly, my circle of friends and acquaintances took notice of my work and began asking me to be their photographer for their weddings and other events. After the birth of my first child, I took a break from photography to focus on family and eventually went back to college for my MBA. But then, soon after I completed my MBA, people have started asking me about my photography and when I plan on getting back to it because they noticed I enjoyed it and have a natural talent for it. So then I picked up the camera again and started shooting various non-profit and corporate events. That is also when I discovered I had a talent for video production.

Fast-forward to Jan 2024, I’ve come to a realization after studying the production and film industry that, there were certain stories that were not being told and it was long overdue for someone to step into the fray to tell those untold stories. So I also begun a media production company called, Kufi Productions, where my team and I collaborate with many artists and organizations to help craft those untold stories.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth or linear path by any means. And as many artists can attest to, it takes time to find your ‘brand’ that people recognize and identify that this kind of work can only be done by you. And then to monetize your talents can take even longer, if that is part of the plan.

Another challenge is finding people that will advocate and testify to the brilliant work that you do. But once you do get your name out there, then the doors of opportunities begin to open up rather quickly and people will start to come to you to either offer their help, their business, or seek out your services.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am dedicated photographer who is committed to telling unique stories through my lens. My approach is centered around understanding the unique story behind every event and portrait. I believe in building a personal connection with my clients to ensure I meet their specific needs and exceed their expectations.

I am also passionate video and film producer, dedicated to amplifying the voices of the underrepresented, suppressed, and/or oppressed ethnic groups around the world and supporting other storytellers and creative experts in doing so.

Many have taken notice of both my photography and production work, but as of late, my production work has been picking up quite a bit due to high demand. I’m proud of the fact that my talents and services are much needed not only in my community but across the country. People have heard of my mission and have begun to respond to my call to action, which is, to explore traditions, preserve heritage and shed light on important events happening around the world, with the highest quality, integrity, and artistic merit.

I believe what sets me apart from others is that I’m at the forefront of storytelling when it comes to cultivating a culture of belonging of not some backgrounds but all of them and speaking up when we encounter behavior that doesn’t align with our core values.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I was 7, I asked my dad to ride with my on the Texas Giant in Six Flags, the biggest roller coaster of any theme park at the time. At first, my dad was hesistant but he eventually warmed up to the idea and agreed to go with me to ride it. It was also my first time riding a roller coaster, ever, so naturally I was nervous. But as soon as I sat down and the roller coaster started, I felt excited and enjoyed the adrenaline that kicked in. To my dad’s surprise, I was excited the entire ride and asked him if I could ride it again. We didn’t ride it again but it was such an exciting memory for me.
