Meet Ryann Lindsey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryann Lindsey.

Ryann, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2011, I moved to Virginia after graduating from nursing school at Arizona State University to pursue a pediatric oncology-nursing career. While I was in Virginia, I followed my passion for photography and started Ryann Lindsey Photography. Throughout the next seven years, I moved back to Arizona, completed grad school for nursing education and took my photography business to the next level. Now Ryann Lindsey Photography has grown into not only a local wedding photography business but also internationally. I now not only photograph weddings but also branding, maternity, commercial and more. I offer several education opportunities as well for wedding planners, and various levels of photography!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been so many struggles along the way. The biggest struggle would be the idea of comparison. Being a photographer in the sometimes overly saturated industry has its own set of insecurities. The biggest challenge for me was to discover my brand, and live it! I decided to not allow other people and their work define what I thought I had to do as a photographer. Comparison is truly the thief of joy. Once I realized that there is so much beauty in our uniqueness, I was able to appreciate my photography more and embrace my creative eye.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ryann Lindsey Photography– what should we know?
Currently, I specialize in wedding, portrait and brand photography, with my biggest strength in details and styling. I have had the opportunity to spread the knowledge by hosting workshops, mentoring other photographers, and will be speaking at the Reset photography conference next spring. If I have learned anything from this process, I have learned to trust my eye and how to follow my heart when it comes to capturing moments that will last a lifetime. The thing that sets me apart is my ability to connect to my clients on a real, raw level and to be more than just a photographer. My clients really hold a special place in my heart and I forever want them to know that!

How do you define success?
To me, success is not defined by money, power, control… it is following your dreams, not being afraid to take chances, and ultimately betting on yourself. If you put your heart and mind into all you do, you can be the creator of your own success.

Personally, I feel like I have achieved success in several areas of my life. I have had the chance to love, to travel, to share my journey and grow. And have broken 100 in golf, which is success in my eyes as a newbie golfer. But really, everyone find happiness in different things. For me, it is traveling, seeing the world, making new memories and sharing the journey with those I love.
