Meet Ryan Neuerburg of Bay Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Neuerburg

Hi Ryan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started the Jim on Base Show during the Covid lockdown. After listening to some interviews on some sports radio stations, I had the idea to reach out to my favorite retired athletes. I figured, since everyone is experiencing the lockdown, I might be able to get in touch & reflect on some of my favorite athlete’s careers as well as what they’ve been up to in retirement. To my pleasant surprise, almost everyone I reached out to, wanted to come on the show!

Initially, my interviews were all over the phone & I’d record them inside my car! By being inside my car, I had the best acoustics that made it sound like I was in an actual recording studio.

Eventually, I was able to gain media credentials to the American Century Championship golf tournament at the Edgewood Resort & Golf course in South Lake Tahoe. I had attended that golf tournament a handful of times as a fan to see some of my favorite athletes & entertainers participate in the golf tournament. It was a dream come true to be credentialed as a media member! I was able to interview some of the entertainment & sports world’s biggest names for the Jim on Base Show & that allowed my show to continue to grow.

Eventually, I was able to obtain media credentials to attend other golf tournaments & also attend MLB games to interview some of my favorite current players. It was pretty surreal to go from recording inside of my car, to inside the clubhouse of my favorite baseball team.

Today, I enjoy doing zoom interviews with some of my favorite athletes, entertainers, comedians, musicians etc. I’m also able to attend MLB & NBA games to interview players in person which is always a lot of fun!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Initially, I was hesitant to get into the podcasting world. I didn’t know how to edit audio, how to upload it online, or even how to start a podcast.

The idea of buying a microphone, getting editing software etc was very intimidating & sounded like a headache. But once I started, it was a lot of fun & not as complicated as I had thought.

I often think to myself how happy I am that I decided to make the jump & come out of my comfort zone. I’ve met a lot of great people & experienced so many things that I would have never been able to do without starting a podcast.

The show has continued to grow & makes me excited to continue on with the Jim on Base Show!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets my podcast a part from others is that I like to get to know the guests for more than what they’re publicly known for. I like to ask about their families, their hobbies, what type of music they like to listen to etc.

I’ve noticed it creates a more fun & relaxing environment when you’re able to really connect with the guest on a more personal level.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think the most important characteristic to my success has been approaching people I am genuinely a fan of. That makes for a better interview & more thoughtful questions.
