Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Birchett.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2008, I bought a house and couldn’t afford the industrial furniture I wanted to furnish it with. Using a $500 inheritance, I bought an Eastwood MiG 135 Welder and began to teach myself how to weld. I’ve always been a recycler so I gravitated towards salvage and remnant materials to construct my furniture with. I’m inspired by old industrial pieces with simple lines that were built to last. I love contrast and color and try to incorporate it when possible. Creative outlets are important. Welding, fabricating, and furniture design has been that for me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The “struggle” has been a pleasure. Learning to weld properly is super challenging, humbling and very rewarding.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about PhoenixMetalworks – what should we know?
PhoenixMetalworks primarily focuses on workbenches, shelves, tables, and cabinets. I also enjoy creating automotive art using old emblems and license plates. Most proud of the enjoyment people get from the things I make. What sets PHXMetalworks apart is the use of as much remnant steel as possible.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Pushing past failure and willingness to ask questions and learn from anyone or anywhere you can. Crave constructive criticism. Stay humble.
