Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Andrews.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ryan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I spent 33 years living on the east coast, right outside Washington, DC, in Maryland. I briefly left for college, in South Carolina, and returned home after obtaining my degree in Criminal Justice. In 2007, I started my professional career in law enforcement working for a federal government agency, in Washington, DC. While working full time I went back to school to obtain my graduate degree in Homeland Security Management. While working for the federal government for 10 years a major focus of my job was on physical security. I assisted in securing two presidential inaugurations, multiple State of the Union Addresses, countless Congressional Delegations, and two National Conventions. Also during that time, I traveled frequently for my job. I spent a lot of time in areas like New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, etc. Part of my job function was to complete security preparations for high ranking government officials before their arrival. I spent a vast amount of time completing threat/vulnerability assessments, emergency operations plans, and logistical meetings with other federal agencies, local law enforcement, and site security personnel. Every city I traveled to I conducted risk assessments of various businesses, hospitals, hotels, airports, churches, etc.
At the end of 2017, my family and I moved to Arizona, in the Southeast Valley, where I continued my career in law enforcement. After being in the area for a while I began to realize something drastically different from Washington, DC and many of the other major cities I had spent time in. There did not seem to be as much of an emphasis on physical, or other security matters, in the private sector. I realized the Phoenix metro area was growing substantially and I firmly believed the local, private business sector could benefit from someone experienced in physical security matters. As I just mentioned, the Phoenix Metro area is growing at an enormous rate, faster than anywhere else in the country, both economically and population wise. That growth will also attribute to a higher focus on security concerns within the private sector. So several months ago, in 2019, I started Titan Security Group, LLC to provide security consulting services for businesses in the local Phoenix area that had a need for services such as situational awareness training for employees, risk assessments, security policy review, and more.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I laughed out loud about this question. The answer is not at all! I am sure anyone who has started their own business would say the same. When starting a business you find a few aspects to be relatively painless, right? However, you quickly learn how much there is to do and how much of that has absolutely nothing to do with the actual type of work your business will be conducting! I would say the biggest struggle for any small business or startup would be trying to get potential clients aware of your business. As I said, some aspects are relatively painless. Anyone can come up with a business idea and get a website thrown together. The challenge comes in figuring out how to make everyone aware of that new website and business name! New, smaller businesses don’t have endless funds for marketing campaigns and good quality SEO costs can be enormous! Even if you can invest a decent amount of funds into various marketing avenues, you realize you are fighting for limited space against larger corporations, with better name recognition. So the best answer is no, it has not been easy. But I also can look back and see how much I have grown and learned in such a short time.
Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
Titan Security Group was created to provide consulting services specifically in the physical security realm. While we offer many services, we specialize in security assessments of physical locations and security matter training for business employees. Our consulting services are directed to the private sector which includes local new business start-ups, already established companies and corporations, churches, HOA’s, and more. It is an incorrect assumption that only large corporations should invest in security. The interesting thing is, to be honest, smaller businesses should have more of a focus on security issues. The reason is they have the most to lose. A common phrase I constantly refer to is, “Security doesn’t just increase safety. It increases the legitimacy of your business.” It can be hard for a lot of businesses to see the larger picture in regards to security matters, which is understandable. Budgeting money for this area is often looked at as either something that can be put on hold or that is simply not a priority for most businesses.
There are a handful of other things business owners would rather put their money towards. I also think most businesses tend to believe security consulting fees are enormous. That is where I believe we are set apart from other larger security consulting firms. Titan Security Group offers services at reasonable rates businesses can afford. We have years of direct experience in the trade. I am also proud of how Titan Security Group has evolved in just a short amount of time. For example, we just began offering a new training class; Fraud Awareness for Senior Citizens. The retirement age population has sky-rocketed in Arizona. Additionally, fraud scams focused on the older population is referred to as the crime of the 21st century. We want to connect with the many retirement communities, facilities, and HOA’s in the valley to provide services for their members and clients.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
We have only been in business for several months. However, I am always excited when I hear our business name growing and more people finding out about us and what we do. I am simply proud to be able to provide honest and important services to the Phoenix metro area as we continue to grow.
