Today we’d like to introduce you to Rod Dunlap.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rod. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We jumped into the golf business back in 2002 without a basic knowledge of the industry, starting a business or designing and getting a product to market. Just a couple of friends (working for a medical software firm at the time) with a product idea that wasn’t readily available in retail – a golf bag cooler. Cold beers and golf were two of our favorite activities together and we simply couldn’t find anything that kept our beer cold – problem solved!
After a couple years as a 1 product golf cooler company, we started to introduce new golf products including: golf travel bags, golf bags and other golf accessories while still working other jobs. The process was slow and unprofitable for many years and we considered quitting the business on more than one occasion. Thankfully we continued to grind.
Fast forward to 2018… Our company has experienced tremendous growth over the past 4-5 years and we continue to introduce new products every year. Golf is a really tough business but if you enjoy what you do and have a strong work ethic you can overcome most obstacles.
Has it been a smooth road?
Since we had zero experience as a business startup while entering an unknown industry, we ran into plenty of challenges along the way. Looking back now we overcame a lot to become a sustainable and profitable business.
Some of the bigger challenges we faced along the way were financing, sourcing quality products/materials, finding resellers and logistics issues.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We separate ourselves from the competition by providing over the top customer service and high quality products at reasonable prices. We’re now best known as a golf travel bag company. Our products can be found at local retailers: Valley Golf Center and Van’s as well online at Amazon, Ebags, TGW and Overstock.com.
I’m most proud of our tenacity in building the business while gaining market share from larger competitors.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chandler has been a great location for us. We’ve had great luck with finding new warehouse/office facilities and I’d recommend to other businesses.
