Meet Rocio Francis of Morning Mist Soap Co in West Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rocio Francis.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rocio. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I believe my journey for my company started a very long time ago as a child being introduced to a sustainable living lifestyle along with loving the outdoors. Growing up I always had my grandmothers and my mother introducing me to using our resources that the earth gave us, fast forward to me being an adult I come across an older style soap making book and it reignited this certain fire in me that wanted to learn more about this talent that not many people have nowadays and that’s being your own maker for these products from an industry that has taken over our world.

Has it been a smooth road?
My journey for my company has not been a smooth road I believe even from the get-go. Finding the resources and money to create high end products at first was an extreme struggle, at least sales now can pay for themselves. Being able to learn my worth not only for myself but for my products and pricing what is also difficult, because when you’re fresh in the game you don’t know where to start because you’re comparing yourself to major companies that are so cheap. Along with that, I’m also a mother, of three kids! That alone can have its difficulties for obvious reasons but my children continue to push me to be a better business woman and mother. Not only am I a mother, a wife, and a businesswoman; I’m also an epilepsy, and stroke survivor. I suffered a stroke before birth, leaving me with a cleft on my brain which causes my seizures and left-sided weakness. So you can say getting to and from the post office or even to the grocery store can be a challenge, as well as my health in general but I stay positive!

Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
My company is an all custom made fragrance oil, plastic free, vegan, the small batch company with ingredients ranging from skincare to beard and hair care. I know the history behind a lot of the ingredients that I use and the meaning of every plant that I put into my product because I do my research. It’s important to me to make relationships with my supporters, as well as allowing them to learn their skin and love the skin that they’re in all while benefiting the earth and creating a lifestyle that is plastic free, with reusable packaging. I feel as if that’s hard to find nowadays, on top of me using recipes that I’ve learned from my family and putting stories behind every product that I make.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about our city is the amount of culture that has begun to rise, knowing my family has been here before Arizona has become a state is something that I’m really proud of so to see it grow over the years and change only to become more diverse is everything that I know my ancestors before me have always wanted. One of the least things that I can say that I dislike about our city is the fact that it gets packed during the winter time! Haha, and there are a few things that we can do better for the community of course like keeping our streets clean and growing the art community and bringing more awareness to the poverty levels.
