Meet Robyn Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Parker.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have always considered myself “creative”, even from a young age it’s what has made me feel most alive. I began working with fiber arts in 2014 after seeing a woven wall hanging. I loved the possibilities weaving offered by using tons of colors, textures and technique. My background is working as a pediatric nurse, and weaving began as a side hobby.

A few years ago I decided to stay home with our children and enjoy the little years with them. During this time, I’ve found that I still wanted a way to stay connected with other people. I started teaching workshops and have enjoyed being a part of local markets. It really has been such a surprise to work as an artist and share my love for the arts!

Please tell us about your art.
As a fiber artist I work in mediums, weaving and macramé. I really enjoy both arts, almost equally, and it’s been a fun challenge to grow in both of these art forms. Weaving allows for more of an expression of colors, with so many yarn options to choose from. Since moving from Seattle back to Phoenix, where I grew up, I’ve felt a strong influence from the surrounding desert colors. I’ve been working with soft sage, blush and clay tones. Lately when I’ve created macramé pieces I have been drawn to more linear shapes and layers. It is my hope that the pieces I create bring joy to someone’s home!

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
I think it’s important to find your own voice as an artist. I’m learning that this can be a lifelong process, but I think it’s really valuable to be true to your aesthetic.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
It as an honor to work with West Elm Phoenix as one of their LOCAL makers. They carry a variety of macramé pieces including wall hangings and plant hangers. I also love being a part of the Phoenix Flea in the Fall and Spring. My pieces can also be ordered through Etsy.com
