Meet Robert Woods of Love Light and Healing Center in Gilbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Woods.

Robert, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I spent ten years as an environmental chemist for a waste transportation and disposal company. In 2009, I had a horseback riding accident that dislocated my left elbow. That injury took seven months of recuperation. In 2010, almost one year to the date later and on the same horse, I fell again and broke a small shard of bone in my right elbow. Hoping I may not have another seven months of recovery, I asked my chiropractor if he could do anything with my elbow. He had an idea I found intriguing… His wife was an acupuncturist, and he was nearing the end of the acupuncture for chiropractors training. If I would allow them to work on me tandem, they may be able to help quicker than the last time. I figured I had nothing to lose. After only three months of treatment, I was amazed to be completely healthy and fully able to work and play like before the injury. In asking them how they made this miracle, they both told me they “could do the work, not teach how to do it” and referred me to visit the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine & Acupuncture (PIHMA) in Phoenix. I toured the campus and was extremely impressed with the herbal medicinary. That fall, I joined PIHMA as an acupuncture student and completed the program in four years. I love to tell people I fell into this medicine!!

I met my business partner at a reflexology center in 2017 and we decided we could bring something great to the world ourselves. In 2018, we opened Love Light and Healing Center and have been growing ever since!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would not say starting Love Light and Healing Center was easy. I have struggled with the fear of bringing the absolute best to each patient. I worry often that I am not good enough, that I may not catch an important clue leading to a worse condition, and that I may never be as good as other practitioners in the area. My solution has been to choose only continuing education topics that ignite my passion, provide a deeper understanding of the principles of Chinese medicine, and spark curiosity.

Love Light and Healing Center is born of the desire to help others with their journey to wellness, to invest in every visitor’s well-being, and provide tools for the challenges of life. We pride ourselves on being a place “where healing happens”. It is always our extreme pleasure to see a sparkle in the eyes, a spring in the step, and witness each person’s transformation with every visit they have.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is a concept we often use to explain others’ fortune or our misfortune. I believe luck is the definition of a dream, the willingness to work towards said dream, and being open to the opportunities each of us is presented with. When we fail, it is a lesson to prepare for the next venture; when we succeed, it is on the effort we put into the struggle.
