Meet Robert Garcia of Rob’s Tips for Trips in Southeast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Garcia.

Robert, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The idea for Rob’s Tips for Trips, started when friends and family would ask for local trips to the places I had traveled to. I would dig up the specific note page on my phone and share all my random links, tips and tricks from locals, along with numerous bits of information collected from books and websites.

It was not efficient, but the information was useful and went well beyond what most guidebooks offered. The video concept hit me when I was back in Venice testing out a new camera while on a walking tour.

The information I learned was not only relevant but answered some of the toughest questions when traveling, such as finding an authentic meal, not getting ripped off and capturing the best photos of the city.

A few days later, I had edited together the first video of the series and the response was incredible, paving the way to where we are now.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest struggle was convincing people they would want to watch it. The travel video market is very saturated, and it’s difficult explaining to someone how you are different.

My goal was to create a concise one-two minute video, that delivers the best food, picture and local travel tips to empower individuals to travel.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rob’s Tips for Trips – what should we know?
My professional background has been in media production, and I’ve always been an avid fan of travel, so Tip’s for Trips naturally flowed into existence. I specialize in visually capturing the essence of a city while providing travel tips that lean more towards educating instead of delivering facts.

For example, I’m not a huge fan of listing names of restaurants in the series as owners change, quality changes and restaurants close. I’d rather provide a general neighborhood known for its great food, or teach viewers what makes a good taco stand in Mexico city and how to spot it.

What are your plans for the future?
For the future, I am looking forward to expanding with additional content and possibly partnering up. I would like to implement the one-two video format to educate viewers on all aspects of travel from suitcase packing, booking plane tickets, and expectations vs. reality as it pertains to travel.
