Meet Richard Singer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Singer.

Hi Richard, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today
Hello thanks for having me, I’ve always loved music and kids. In fact, I bought the electric guitar I still use today from the money I earned babysitting children in the neighborhood. When the opportunity came up to teach music to kids, I jumped at it and was a natural. I loved making music with the kids and they loved making music with me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Getting started in Chicago was actually a pretty smooth road. Once I got some high-profile weekly performances at the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Nature Museum, and the Old Town School of Folk Music, people started calling me. For the last twenty-five years in Chicago, I kept very busy performing and teaching 6 days a week. I never really needed to advertise, my career caught fire mostly by word of mouth.

Rebuilding my career here in Phoenix has been a different story, I moved here in the midst of covid without much of a social network and no one knew of me yet. I really appreciate this opportunity to let your audience know I am here in the valley, available and eager to perform for families with young children at concerts, parties, festivals, and group music classes in homes, churches, or other community venues.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been making music with young children for most of my life, performing weekly concerts at the zoo, nature museum, private birthday parties, and festivals. In 2014, I opened up my own music school LeitHaus Studios Chicago and won the Best Music Classes for Kids” award from Chicago Magazine.

What sets me apart from other kids’ performers is my ease with building rapport with Children. I genuinely love kids and they feel that when we meet. They know I will listen to them and they know we’ll have a good time making music together. Music has been my primary passion since I was a child, I share that with them and they receive it well.

What I’m known for:

“A hit with the young crowd.”- Kara Spak Chicago Sun-Times

“One of Chicago’s gems.”- Liz Hoffman Chicago Parent

“The best around.”- Elizabeth Shapiro The Chicagoist

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I have never had or been a mentor officially, but I have decades of experience as a successful musician and I’m always happy to share my experiences with artists starting out in the field. If you are a business person who would like to help an artist like myself take their business to the next level, I believe I would be a great mentee and would love to talk with you.

Thank you!
