Meet Richard Perlman of Asher Cole in Downtown Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Perlman.

Richard was born into the furniture business as his father was a furniture buyer for Goldblatt’s Department store in Chicago, IL. Due to his older sister’s health complications, the family decided to make the move to Los Angeles, CA. Richard’s father then opened up his furniture retail stores in CA. There a young Richard started working for the business as a delivery person on his summer vacations and his passion for design and the furniture industry bloomed. After graduating from, The University of California Northridge in 1967, Richard started his furniture venture, Asher Cole. Richard then met and married the love of his life, Julie, in 1976 and together combined their passions for design and continued the business in the ever changing industry with extreme success!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A major bump in the road or set back over the years has been “the fire of 1988” that burned our CA factory to the ground. It was an extremely devastating, stressful time period that challenged our livelihood. We persevered and kept moving forward as best as possible despite the situation and were able to maintain our backlogs and successfully maintain until this very day. It has been a great lesson for us and is very grateful for all of our experiences, good and bad.

Please tell us about your business.
Asher Cole is a custom furniture manufacturer, which currently caters to the Hospitality Industry throughout the US and abroad. The business now spanning over 50 years in the design industry that started in 1968 in Van Nuys, CA and relocated to our current spacious 22,000 sq. ft. the factory in the heart of Phoenix, AZ in 1995.

We specialize in custom furniture, graciously working directly with some of the top design firms in the nation. The Asher Cole team has been consistent throughout the years as we have a strong core of skilled carpenters, upholsters and our talented finishing department. Heading the amazing team is our Factory Foreman, Jorge Molina, who has been with Asher Cole since 1975 and made the relocation to PHX with the company and continues to be one of the strongest assets.

We are extremely proud of the work we produce for some of the top hotels and restaurants such as the $4M renovation for the Hilton LAX. Other notable projects include Bellagio Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay, Bally’s Las Vegas and Maestros in Beverly Hills and Scottsdale.

Our years of experience set us apart from other furniture manufacturers as we have an extremely talented and dedicated team who takes pride in every order and every piece that we custom manufactured at our facility, which is truly one of a kind.
