Meet Rey Ramirez of Primo Craftworks in South Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rey Ramirez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in South Phoenix, Arizona. I’ve always had an interest in art, and my dream is to be a full-time artist/gallery owner one day. I started Primo Craftworks not only to realize my dream, but I also want to support my local art community by offering some affordable options for their creative needs. I currently hand build custom canvasses wood panels and frames for artwork. The arts and my community are important to me, so Primo Craftworks is my way to inspire and help elevate local art and artists.

Has it been a smooth road?
Primo is still a side gig at this point in my life. I’m a husband to a beautiful wife and father of two small children so finding time for family, my full-time job and building my business is difficult. As a delivery driver, I’m up sometimes at 2 am to start my route and work on orders when I get home when the kids allow. I do most of my work over the weekend. The good thing is my job is seasonal, so I have the summers off for the most part and can devote most of my time to my business.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I provide an affordable option for local artists when it comes to canvasses, wood panels, and frames. Canvasses can be really pricey, and I remember having to wait and save before being able to buy a decent canvas from the store. So, my goal is to provide an affordable option for people that are in the same situation I was in. Although I offer these products and services for less money, I feel my work has a quality that people can appreciate and I take pride in that.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Phoenix presents a great opportunity for my business and businesses focused around art. We have great artists that are native to AZ and also artists that are from other states and regions, so the art scene is bustling. But really, starting a business comes down to the person starting the entrepreneur. You have to have the passion to succeed and hustle every day.
