Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Watkins.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Renee. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
One frigid winter day in Chicago, I looked down at my fingertips and noticed they had turned blue. The ‘hawk’ had got me and my whole body, apparently. The ‘hawk’ is what Chicagoans call the chilling, blowing wind and I could feel the coldness in my bones. I couldn’t bear another winter in the Windy City, so me and my husband, along with our two children, decided to move to a warmer climate. Arizona was our destination. This was in 2009 and we haven’t looked back since.
The same year we moved to the desert, it was the same year I switched careers. Actually, I had made the decision to switch careers a few years prior. I officially graduated with my Masters in Education in 2009 and began my new career as a Math Educator upon relocating to Arizona. I loved being the in classroom, building relationships with my students and effecting their lives for the better. Having entrepreneurial energy, I wanted to continue to serve my community in other ways. Earlier this year, I obtained my real estate license to advance this commitment and I have been diligently hitting the pavement ever since.
Starting with my sphere, I built my client base and I’m in contact with individuals and families weekly who desire to own their own home. I’m continuously building my online presence to reach more individuals who either want to relocate to Arizona or upgrade their living space.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a smooth road, for the most part. Building relationships, which is essential for a Realtor, comes easy for me. It’s my job to assist my clients with making one of the biggest decisions of their lives, so it is vital for me to understand their needs and wants, and follow through accordingly.
Nonetheless, any transition can have its challenges. The real estate industry is very competitive. The number of active agents is continuously increasing, which could be discouraging for some people. For me, however, I welcome such opportunities. I believe that stepping outside of my comfort zone leads to growth and progress. I am finding creative ways to connect with clients and providing them with useful information that can help them make an informed decision.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
I am a Realtor with HomeSmart. I help families attain their #dreamhousegoals, whether it’s an upgrade, downgrade, relocation, or their very first time purchasing a home.
What sets me apart is my service to my community. I offer a unique program that costs nothing to my clients, and the same time financially supports education. My Funding Education One House At A Time Program donates proceeds from each transaction that I complete to classrooms in the Valley. as well as creating scholarship opportunities for those pursuing a higher education.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Honestly, I don’t believe in luck. I believe in blessings and favor from my Lord and Savior. I have been blessed with many things in my life and business, from my family, the successes in my careers, my home, my health….everything from the smallest to the largest, I give glory to God. Without Him, I cannot do anything, but through Him, anything is possible.
