Meet Regina Dela Cruz of Baysik Clothing MMXVI in Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Regina Dela Cruz.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Regina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I graduated high school I was 18 and was wanting to find a source of income aside from working a clock in-clock out type of job. I started my first job working retail and from there I was able to learn what I liked and didn’t like about the job. I learned different things like the concepts of retail customer service to presentation, and I got a taste of what it’s like when working under a boss. There would be days where I wish I could make money on my own without having to dread coming to work but during the summer of 2016 is when I thought about creating a clothing brand. I was very interested in business during high school but it wasn’t until this day where I knew I wanted to start a clothing brand. It happened out of no where, all of a sudden I was on my laptop and started online shopping because I was always one who liked to dress in fashion, and after seeing certain designs of known brands I thought to myself “I can make that” and I started researching, researching, and researching. I was so motivated because knowing there are brands out there that are making good money from a design that can be so simple but unique drew me into creating Baysik. I chose the name Baysik because it represents that although it sounds like the word “Basic” it has it’s own twist. The same idea goes for viewing people in life, although there are many people in the world, there are certain unique characteristics and traits about a person that make you great. I have a strong connection with the name of my brand because it means a lot to me and when people wear my brand I want them to feel comfortable and confident. To be Baysik isn’t just for the name it’s gives allows people the chance to express themselves through clothing. I’ve been able to take bits and pieces from my life experiences into how I like to run my brand and I continue to learn to this day. I am currently 21 and I enjoy doing everything on my own because as I am a small business right now it allows me to keep track of everything. Not only that but I believe it is very important to know my customers. Since 2016 I know all my customers who have supported Baysik Clothing MMXVI, everytime I make a sale I give a shoutout on social media and thank them for becoming apart of the Baysik Family. I can’t express the feeling of seeing people wearing my brand, it’s a very powerful and proud moment that drives me to keep grinding.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are many situations I’ve been in from having this brand that I never thought I would experience. I’ve lost friends, money, and gear the past year but I’ve learned how to deal with the losses. Being a CEO of a business is not the easiest, people only really see the good side of it which is making money while being your own boss but there’s so much more to it. I’ve had money stolen at an event, people come along the way just to join the clout, people asking for money because they see me doing good. It’s crazy… but it shows that I’m really out here doing this and I thank the real ones from the start including my family, girlfriend Tai, and friends who truly supported me and my brand to get me where I am today.

Baysik Clothing MMXVI – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
There are many streetwear clothing brands in the world, but what separates Baysik from anyone else is the relationship with our customers, quality, and artwork. As I stated previously I take the time to get to know my customers. From local sales in Arizona to Foreign sales in other continents I feel like in order for a customer to return there has to be a everlasting effect to make them want to come back. I like to feature my customers in a social media post and show them off in their new Baysik Gear. I also am constantly open to recruiting new models and ambassadors which opens up new relationships and exposure. This past year Baysik Clothing MMXVI had 2 fashion show events, and attended several pop ups. Aside from the social side, I make sure my items are sold with quality and comfort, for example I’ve had many positive reviews about our Tees due to the fitting and softness. Not only that but presentation is also key that says a lot about a brand. Lastly the logo, gives a modern but trendy look to it where you can decide to dress it up or dress it down while still showing off your wearing a name brand.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I like to define success as achieving a goal you’ve set your mind to. Being able to create something from nothing is success, to be able to keep it going and not dying out is also success. Failure is also a trait that can determine your success because being a CEO and having that type of mentality, Failure is a good thing because It shows you how to overcome something which leads to becoming successful. Making sales is good but if you’re not making any net profit you’re not being successful you’re just being average, just breaking even. It’s about achieving something with determination and then doing it again and again and that’s what makes you successful.
