Today we’d like to introduce you to Reggie Rayford Jr.
Reggie, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since I am the oldest child, I had the opportunity to grow up with my 18-year-old parents. I recall being a very popular child. Everyone wanted to take pictures and hold me! That is the biggest reason I enjoyed taking pictures while I was young. I literally had boxes of shoes and clothes stacked to the ceiling of my room. Blessings were captured!
As I grew older, I began to gain a better understanding of proper lighting, angles, and fashion. I believe art is a vivid vision of color, honesty with oneself, and euphoria. Art has brought excitement to my life. At one point I wanted to attend fashion school to learn the true meaning of art. But in eighth grade, I fell in love with photography. I could not explain how or why my pictures were decently acceptable without much practice. I would receive constructive criticism from my peers and interest from the yearbook committee. So I became apart of the committee and successfully applied my creativity behind and in front of the camera. I was able to pose people and capture candid moments,
High school had come along and I decided to model and become an actor. My reasoning was very logical since modeling and photography went in conjunction. I continued to get exposure with film and photography until college became a humbling process. Immediately I became a student of life. I had to put down my camera and just learn. Therefore I helped with school plays as well as working alongside my close friend Archie Howard. I had an immense love for learning. Archie spoke on his interest in photography and his journey to art.
Afterward, I was no longer upset at myself. I finally realized life is an art and it took lots of time to master photography. My goal was to create a blessing and capture them for people. I am always keeping THE MOST HIGH first and my feelings last. Life has been the best teacher and pictures can express many words and emotions. Take a picture, it will last longer! I speak about being an image of excellence and that has brought blessings today. Being Dapper is a lifestyle.
Currently, I am a medical student studying acupuncture. I know it will be important to dress suit and tie or better yet, dress to impress. On the other hand, I am the brand ambassador for Being Dapper and a signed actor. I have elevated my portfolio so that photography will be a stepping stone for my fashion and overall appearance.
Has it been a smooth road?
I faced obstacles along the way because photography can sometimes be time-consuming. I did not have time to take pictures because I would model instead. Sometimes I had to chose what will get more exposure to the industry (modeling or photography). I am sure anyone can understand the frustration.
Other struggles such as payment were equally frustrating issues. Many people wanted to pay later or they would not pay at all. I had to swallow my pride and keep gaining exposure by word of mouth.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Capturing Blessings story. Tell us more about your work.
Capturing blessings is my company featuring: fashion/photography/writing/film/training. I do not have a specialty because I find ways to blend all of my interests/hobbies together without being overwhelmed. I am a poet so I like taking pictures and adding my words of wisdom onto the picture.
I have a degree in Exercise & Wellness so I find it very fun to train clients and then book photoshoots. People that want to be trained are pushing toward a goal and the goal is fully accomplished on camera. The camera doesn’t lie!
When I get tired of taking photos, I learn about film. I believe doing both photography and film can set me apart until I figure out what’s my favorite. I am most proud of the impact I’ve made on people. I have made people smile, given them hope, and built everlasting relationships.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I do not have a solid outlook on my business in 5-10 years. I know it’ll be much more prosperous. I am excited to see where my consistency and professionalism lead. I will allow the spirit of THE MOST HIGH to capture my blessing. I can only take a mental picture of 5-10 years from now.
