Meet Reggie Alfonso of GameDay Sports

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reggie Alfonso.

Reggie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I spent a majority of my professional career in High Education. Most recently I was an Associate Vice President at Grand Canyon University. I managed a group of Enrollment Advisors and Student Services Advisors and was primarily responsible for helping the University with student growth and service. But I grew up playing sports my entire life!

Baseball, Basketball, Football and anything else we could try. I played Varsity basketball in High School and played 2 years of College basketball as well. As I became a Dad I spent a lot of time coaching my kid’s sports teams. I realized how much I love youth sports and all it does for kids. I grew up with a single mom, so I know first hand all the life lessons you can learn while playing sports. My coaches were amazing role models for me and sports taught me things like the importance of having a strong work ethic, goal setting, teamwork, how to deal with winning AND losing, respecting authority, and much more!

So I decided to take a leap of faith and start GameDay Sports from the ground up! We started our program in 2017 and in our first year, 1200 kids have been through our program. In 2018 we will be expanding to Gilbert, Surprise, and Phoenix. Our goal is to teach kids important life lessons through sports. We focus on building strong Character, treating everyone with Respect, and having a lot of Fun along the way! We hope to impact thousands of kids in our communities and partner with parents to raise the next generation of community leaders and contributors!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The decision to leave a VP position at an incredible University and start GameDay Sports was very difficult. There are no guarantees, a lot of work to do, and a lot has to go right! I have a wife and 3 kids who are counting on me to provide and that’s a tremendous responsibility.

Business Ownership is a huge roller coaster with lots of ups and downs. However, I have never been happier! We are totally committed to reaching our communities and providing kids with an incredible youth sports program!

Please tell us about GameDay Sports.
GameDay Sports is a youth sports company and we specialize in hosting flag football leagues across the valley. We are known for focusing on more than just sports! We want our athletes to have fun learning the fundamentals of the sport, but we also want them to learn important life lessons that will help them as they grow up. Our programs is also for boys and girls!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing! I’ve made plenty of mistakes… but like we tell our athletes you either WIN or LEARN. Every mistake has been a learning moment and an opportunity to grow!
