Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah de la Fontaine.
Rebekah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started kind of slowly, and then it hit me all at once. I always knew that I liked photography, but I never thought that being a wedding photographer would be my career! That may be a lot different than most people’s stories, but this is mine! I never dreamed of being a wedding photographer, and I kind of got slowly pulled into it.
I used to photograph babies, landscapes, seniors, families, dog maternity,–I literally photographed everything!
Kind of out of the blue, a friend of mine asked me to take some photos on her wedding day. I said, yes!
I photographed her wedding and my whole life kind of changed. I became obsessed with photographing couples and people who are totally in love. I’ve come a long way from that first wedding I photographed! I’m now passionate about elopements and intimate weddings. I also love being able to hike and adventure with my couples in order to get closer to nature and take some truly epic photos.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the thing that I’ve struggled with the most is my own insecurity. Running a business, especially a business, focused on your artistic ability, can be challenging. I quickly learned that comparing myself to others would get me nowhere, and I had to get myself out of that funk. I got my first couple of clients, and they were over the moon with what I delivered. They loved my fun and easy-going attitude when doing engagement sessions and weddings. I got outstanding reviews and realized that my couples were loving me and what I was putting out there. That instantly melted away any insecurity I had about my artistic ability, and I was able to focus all my energy on my couples and running an epic business.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about de la Fontaine Photography – what should we know?
I’m an elopement and intimate wedding photographer for the adventurous and wildly in love soulmates who want to celebrate their love in a way that is uniquely and authentically them! I was photographing weddings for years until I was planning my own wedding. My husband and I booked a wedding venue near where we lived, but something wasn’t feeling right! We felt like this wedding was for other people and not for us. It was draining and stressful. We decided to make the bold decision to change our wedding plans entirely!
We decided to elope on the edge of Horseshoe Bend with only a couple of friends and a few family members. It was the best decision we ever made! And ever since that moment, I realized where my passion was.
I want to help every couple get married in a way that is truly about them and their love for one another. I want to be their personal hype woman when it comes to ditching a traditional wedding.
I love being able to help couples plan out their dream elopement in some far off place and deliver photographs that will allow them to relive those exact moments from the happiest day of their lives.
When you look back, what are you most proud of?
Probably when I got one of the sweetest reviews ever! I’ll share a small portion!
“The moment has passed and the memory made. However, these photos allow me to time travel. They are so raw, and the timing is perfect. For brief moments, I can go back and hold my mother’s hands and kissing my new husband for the first time. I never imagined an image could take my breath away or make my heart skip a beat.”
I felt like that review truly encapsulated exactly what I work so hard to do for all of my couples. It made me so proud of myself and what I’ve been doing to serve my couples.
