Meet Rebecca Van Dijk of We Are Travel Girls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca van Dijk.

Rebecca, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I studied business and economics in the UK and went on to have a career as a private client advisor for one of the largest banks in the world for several years. Like so many these days, I got bored of it (albeit it took me 10 years, not 2) and decided to quit to travel through South America. I began thinking of business ideas and whilst I knew I wanted to do something in travel I couldn’t quite settle on an idea. At the same time I started the Instagram @WeAreTravelGirls to showcase female travelers around the world.

From here Vanessa and I launched the blog which features stories from women around the globe, we have published over 360 articles from over 200 contributors since our launch in June 2016! We Are Travel Girls is now a community of women who look to us for daily travel inspiration on our social channels and the blog. In 2017 we took the step to launch Travel Girls Getaways, trips for adventurous female travelers looking to connect with likeminded women. With Bali Retreats and a Japan Photography Tour under our belts, we are expanding to several new destinations this year and are excited to meet more women from the community!

Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all. The reality of running a business or a start-up is that the work never ends and the ideas you have for your business just keep growing! This means that the majority of your time is spent behind a computer screen, not really living the vacation lifestyle that we portray on social media!

Our biggest challenge right now is expansion and keeping up with the growth of We Are Travel Girls, so we will be adding to the team in 2018 to help continue to build the community and run more events and trips around the world.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We define We Are Travel Girls as a global travel community created to inspire, connect, educate and empower female travelers around the world. What sets us apart from other communities is our passion to bring our audience new travel stories on the blog 5 days a week and to connect women offline as well as online at our events, meet-ups and trips.
