Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Gambino.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Today I am putting my energy into the two main things I love to do; acting and skincare/makeup. But let me tell you how I got started in these two separate yet surprisingly cohesive careers.
Ever since I was little I was obsessed with the arts. I loved to paint and draw. I would sometimes create little skits and pretend to work in different professions. Every time I would go to the movies, I remember watching the credits role and getting this overwhelming feeling of excitement. I just knew that I belonged in that world where anything was possible.
Ok, so that’s where my love for acting came from, but how did I end up in skincare? Well, through different twists and turns in life, mixed with a little confusion on what to do with my life after graduating from ASU (with my BA in Art Studies and BS in Psychology) I decided to become a licensed esthetician and certified makeup artist. I knew it would be a good skill to have and would give me the freedom of having my own business. I have now been running my own skincare and makeup business for almost three years and have my own space in Scottsdale. It makes me so happy when I am able to fill people with confidence. I also work on location on local film sets doing beauty and special effects makeup. I love that deciding to go into skincare and makeup has allowed me a different way into the film industry.
Currently, I am splitting my time 50/50 between my job as an actress and my job as an esthetician/MUA. When I’m not in my treatment room in Scottsdale, I’m acting in different commercials (SRP, AZ Federal Credit Union), short and feature length films, and even acting as the spokesperson for local website security company Sitelock.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been so many struggles, especially considering the fact that I’m basically balancing two careers. At first I thought I had to choose, or that maybe acting would just be my fun side job. It has taken me a couple of years, and bouts of anxiety, but I think I’ve finally figured out how to juggle the two. It helps that I have my own business, so I am able to schedule clients around auditions and film dates. I’d say I’m lucky to be where I am today, but in reality it took a lot of work and confusion to be able to do what I do.
I have noticed that the struggle of achieving my goals is actually very exciting. There’s always something to do or work on. It’s almost like a puzzle. I love that feeling when yet another piece fits perfectly into place. I’m not sure if I’ll ever complete the puzzle, but I think I’m ok with that.
Please tell us about Becks Aesthetics.
I think what I’m most proud about my company, Becks Aesthetics, is that it’s based around helping people. I mainly want to help my clients feel happy in their skin, and when someone comes back to me and tells me that this is the best their skin has felt in years, I realize I’m where I’m supposed to be in life.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Shoot, I’m having a hard time choosing one…I think my favorite memory is collectively when I felt the most at peace, whether that be painting or playing in the grass while the sun fell on my face. Or watching my favorite movie and feeling that euphoria. Overall, it’s just that immense feeling of happiness, like everything is in place…that’s my favorite memory from childhood.
