Meet Raul Guerrero Jr. and Evelyn Contreras-Guerrero of Tacos Micho in Buckeye

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raul Guerrero Jr. and Evelyn Contreras-Guerrero.

Raul and Evelyn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We created Tacos Micho a little over 2 years ago as a request from our friends, neighbors and family. They love Rauls tacos and would always ask that he cater any event. The name of our business is an abbreviation and a long running inside joke.

At the time, Evelyn was working for a major Vegan cosmetics company and would have to hire caterers for social media-based events. Raul eventually did all of the catering and that is how his popularity began. We then moved to Buckeye a year ago due to Evelyn’s job transfer.

All items on the menu are made from scratch. Raul cuts all of his own meats, makes all of the salsas and marinades.

Through the course of our first year, we began integrating vegan and plant-based options into our menu. These are by far some of our most popular and most requested items.

We believe in unifying meat and plant-based eaters, and tacos are the perfect vessels. Our meat eaters cannot believe they are eating plant-based and our plant-based cannot believe they are not eating meat.

We began Tacos Micho as a form of extending the love for family through food and we are so fortunate to be able to share that outward to strangers and now, new friends.

We are also huge supporters of small businesses and believe in community programs. Our goal is to be able to donate a portion of our profits to local schools and sports clubs.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Building our business has not been an easy journey. We have major skeptics due to the vegan taco options on our menus. However, we definitely pride ourselves in the quality of our products and food. Locally sourced and scratch made.

Raul has over 20 years of experience as a professional chef and his passion for cooking really shines through his food.

We have had a few speed bumps this past year in expanding our business into a storefront due to our relocation and the purchase of our new home. Though we work hard in continuing to focus on our end goal- owning a restaurant.

Raul and I love hosting meals at our home. Working hard in preparing the food that we will feed our friends and loved ones. Choosing only the best ingredients.

Leveraging our passion and attention to detail in creating our dishes and finally, watching our loved ones enjoy their food and share some laughs.

Our catering based business has allowed for us to extend that out to complete strangers.

We are known for our traditional marinades, homemade salsas, and our variety of taco options. There is something for everyone! Vegan, vegetarian, carnivore, keto based, and anyone who is hungry!

We are most proud of being able to unite people of different backgrounds, tastes, preferences and lifestyles through food. Seeing people enjoy themselves and have a conversation is what gives us most joy. We also pride ourselves in the quality that we put out and what we can contribute to our community.

Ultimately, we want to teach our son that hard work and perseverance is what brings you to your end goal.

What were you like growing up?
Raul has always been very energetic and passionate about cooking. Raul grew up in Montclair, CA where he would ride his skateboard and eat at local mom and pops, this helped develop his palette for comfort food. He is a lover of all things ska music which has played a major role in our company logo and design.

His unique cooking background has allowed him to bring these elevated culinary techniques into the food we make today. His goal in life was to always be a business owner and he has since achieved that.

Raul is the face of the business or front of house as we call it. He is the one that everyone recognizes and our clients know that when Raul is cooking there is no doubt the food will be amazing!

Evelyn grew up in Orange County, CA and comes has a background in business. She is affectionately known by our clients as the “salsa sommelier” and the one who runs back of house. She also has created one of our most popular catering items, the “Papas y soyrizo”.

This unique blend of backgrounds is what has allowed for us to be the business and brand you have in front of you today and for many more years of amazing tacos to come!
