Meet Ramakant Shankar and Rebecca Schuller of www.giftsforthegeeks.com in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramakant Shankar and Rebecca Schuller.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
By profession, we are data nerds. Our day job is to engineer data, build data systems on top of it and makes sense out of it. But by night, we put on our capes and jump around the dark streets to save the City of Gotham! Shhh… it is supposed to be secret!

Our hobbies are watching comic book movies and we are crazy about superheroes and mad villains. Like any other fanboys, our walls are filled with superhero action figures and collectibles holding shelf spaces. It started with just a hobby and we decided to build a community around it. This turned into an idea of building an online store and blogging series.

We are still in process of building our brand and continuously working toward bringing many more interesting items to the store.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We would say it has been challenging. Competing with deep pocket corporations at one end and dealing with cheap counterfeit products on the other keeps us on our toes. As an e-commerce business, increased shipping prices have been a big challenge for us. Doing what we love keeps up our motivation and these obstacles inspire us to take another step forward to become successful at what we do and to continuously innovate for our Supergeek community.

We have been lucky so far to always have been able to find our way around and hope to continue doing so.

www.giftsforthegeeks.com – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are one stop shop for Licensed merchandise for superhero movies, games, amines and more. Our diverse collection includes apparel, backpacks and accessories from movies like Marvel Universe, DC Comics, Disney etc. and popular games like Call of Duty, Fallout 4, Nintendo, Halo etc. with many other interesting projects in the pipeline.

We are especially proud of our series of blogs, with nerds stamped all over it.
• Our Blog series “Geek Mythology”(https://www.giftsforthegeeks.com/blogs/geek-mythology) is a hangout place for nerds looking for brain food and hosts nerdy articles, fan theories and fictions from our Supergeek fans from all over the globe.
• Our other blog series “It’s All Geek to me”(https://www.giftsforthegeeks.com/blogs/its-all-geek-to-me) hosts curated trendy articles from all over the internet, with Funny memes, videos and quotes.

We talk geek and love to connect with Supergeeks living in Geek-verse. What do you geek about?

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
A part of success is when you are happy with what you are doing and the other part is when you realize that you are able to spread the happiness to people around you. We are fortunate to be able to do what we enjoy most. Our success is to move forward with our mission, but most importantly, do not forget to have fun with it!

We love the idea of bringing the inner geek out of everyone, especially those who may share the same special interest and hobbies that we have.
