Today we’d like to introduce you to Qaadir’Naqib Muhammad.
Qaadir’Naqib, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Our Manhood Training program started in my house. We would invite multiple young men over to my house on Sunday’s and we would go over various things from dealing with peer pressure, brotherhood and more. My wife would cook them a home-cooked meal every week. We eventually got our first office space and we created a twelve-week curriculum that was handcrafted after the original SONS program created by Fatima Halim.
We started with twenty-seven young men between the ages of eight to seventeen and graduated thirteen our first year. We are now approaching our fourth year this September of our SONS Manhood Training program and we are excited to announce that we will be introducing STEM into our curriculum as well yoga and meditation. Our “Fight 4 Life” NO EXCUSES Village has gotten to where it is today because Allah is the GPS and as long as we follow the directions in which he is leading this village we will continue to grow.
Since our conception, we have done various things such as workshops, events, fundraisers and more throughout the process of discovering who we were as an organization and who our target audience was and just the overall experience of coming to understand business rather for-profit or nonprofit. To whoever may read this and you are starting out on your journey of building your business or just in the pursuit of purpose and happiness. Keep going and never allow where people are at in their lives distract you from where you’re headed.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
(Smile) within our name says it all NO EXCUSES. Of course, it hasn’t been a smooth road however we had to make many adjustments and sacrifices and some adjustments and sacrifices had to be made within seconds. We didn’t always have time to plan things out. One thing we’ve been dealing with is finding a permanent location to build our infrastructure. We’ve been blessed to hold our twelve-week program in three various places with this year adding a fourth location and it comes with some complications that we have to adjust to.
We have used hundreds and thousands of our own money to put on our program, events, workshops and more. There’s been times I know I’ve personally felt overwhelmed by obstacles that we have faced so I can only imagine that the rest of the team and staff have felt the same way from the various challenges that we face.
We’d love to hear more about your organization.
We service our original people of the universe specifically our youth within the age group of eight to seventeen. We focus on total wellness. Through our twelve week SONS (Saving Our Noble Sons) Manhood Training program which is from September to December, we teach the young men various life skills designed to increase his chances to make better decisions ranging from health, wealth, mental wellness, and more.
Over the course of twelve Saturdays, we are both indoors and out in the community. We also have our one on one custom mentoring program where we work with the young men one on one and in group settings. We also have our Gung Fu club which is open to the community and not just for young boys. We are only in our infancy so I don’t wanna say what we are most proud of just yet in regards to our services and accomplishments for various reasons.
However, if I may I’d like to say that I am personally proud of the team that we have and are building because we are growing as a family and we are learning ourselves and these young men daily. God willing within our ten and fifteen years of service we should have some proud moments to acknowledge through the boy’s accomplishments and successes in life.
What’s your outlook for the industry over the next 5-10 years?
With technology advancing the way that it is and the convenience that it provides. There can be a shift where we can offer an online service as mentor and group workshops online with the technology that we have. However, we can never replace the human experience. So big shifts not too much per say however more ways to connect with more youths yes there already is. Within the next five to ten years there will be an increase of online mentoring. It won’t be new it’ll be an increase of it.
