Meet Priyanka Costa of Simpli Immune

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priyanka Costa.

Hi Priyanka, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had a secret I was too ashamed to share growing up. As a child, I knew my brain worked differently than the other kids. I was the most creative and one of the fastest memorizers I knew. I read really fast, but I skipped over words and missed important details as I grew older. My mother called it, “here we go again… she is making her silly mistakes”. I started to believe I was making silly mistakes, but I could not really control them. I did well in middle school and high school with all the tactics I had gathered over the years. Fast forward to college, I really could not sustain all my tricks there, and I had to resort to something else to help my brain.

Well, you see I did not grow up in America, I grew up in a society where we just figure it out ourselves. I noticed in college that my symptoms would get bad based on the foods I ate. I started paying attention to what I was eating. I even tried juice cleanses, and they definitely helped my brain performance. I continued to use food as a way to increase my performance throughout the rest of my education. Trialing different diets at various phases of my life.

They not only worked for my brain, but they also help my mood and energy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As I tried to manage my symptoms with food I certainly made a lot of mistakes along the way. At 27 years old I was eventually diagnosed with ADHD. Why did I finally ask for help? Well, I had to learn a lot with minimal sleep. The loss of sleep made me feel even worse, and my performance plummeted. The doctor finally gave me an answer to what I was dealing with. The treatment suggested was Adderall, a controlled substance. I was filled with shame, as this would mean that I would eventually be labeled as a drug seeker. I knew better than this medication was important for my brain to work better. But I was too afraid of the burden I would have to carry for the rest of my life.

Even worse, I wanted to have children soon. Which would mean that I had to stop my medications while trying to get pregnant. After weighing the pros and cons, I decided against medications and sought other ways to help myself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a coaching practice that combines unraveling the root cause of ADHD, insomnia, asthma, and eczema in children. We combine guiding parents of children with ADHD with executive function coaching. What sets us apart from others is the fact we are not a traditional medical practice.

We believe in equipping parents and children with all the tools to address the foods that cause inflammation. When inflammation is present the immune system is more likely to be susceptible to being attacked. We work with clients over three months so that they unravel their personalized diet plan as well as learn energetics to reduce anxiety, tantrums, and frustrations.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
We love to make sure that our clients feel empowered and guided to create the change they want to make. We want our clients to feel supported along every part of their journey, and give them the tools I have learned along my journey.
