Today we’d like to introduce you to Pete Walsh.
Pete, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
20 years ago I was the Vice President of our family’s 75 year old Arizona business – Walsh Bros. Office Equipment. I was struggling with some of the family dynamics, wanting to be in control of my own destiny. I was at church (I’m a recovering Catholic) and the sermon was about finding your “special gift”
I prayed in that moment, and said “help me find MINE and I will hit a HOME RUN for you” – those were my exact words. 3 days later a friend who owned a large construction company told me she had a “Business Coach” and I was floored – I never know there was such a thing. My life turned on a dime. I was a “coaching leader” with my 1`50 employees but didn’t even know it.
I hired a coach, loved the work and the results we achieved and ask my wife if I could leave the family business and start a coaching business. She said yes.
20 years later I’ve coached business leaders all over the country and world. I launched the Family Business Performance Center with over 50 videos and free tools to help other family business participants have the tools and courage to make their family business successful. I get people from all over the world consuming my content.
I have written and published 2 books “Coach to Win The Leadership Game” (2007) and The Family Business Playbook (2015). My goal is to impact 500 families worldwide each year.
My websites www.peakcoach.com and www.familybusinesscoach.com have more information about my clients and my work.
I ask people…how often does an Olympic athlete show up and say “I don’t have a coach”…never. Coaching is a very unique and special partnership to help people reach their potential.
I am blessed to have ask for and found my special gift. When you put intention into the universe…stuff happens…
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
By my mid 30’s I had lost my father (52 years old), 2 brothers, and two of my best friends who stood up for me during my wedding.
I knew life was too short to not be doing what I loved with people I loved doing it with. I challenge all my clients to have the courage and tenacity to shoot for the stars NOW
When I started my business most people had ever heard of business coaching. To this day many struggle to understand the concept.
Oh yeah, the biggest economic recession ever, I hunkered down, wrote my first book, launched a new website. 2 kids in college at the time. Failure was never an option
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am what’s know as a Master Coach. I received the Master Certified Coach designation 15 years ago. I am a leadership coach who helps leaders be more effective to drive their business results and overall personal satisfaction.
I have a specialty of working with multi generation dynasty family businesses. I help them develop the next generation of leaders.
My clients often cite my unique combination of being brutally honest with them and sprinkling on some humor and loving compassion to help them reach the next level
I have a national client base and an online learning system that attracts global clients.
I have a successful 18 year track record as a full time business coach
What were you like growing up?
A dork, playful, getting in trouble. A nerd. Not a lot has changed.
I am good at building long term relationships. I play poker with the same dudes I’ve been playing with for 25 years. Married to my best friend for 31 years. Have clients I’ve coached for 15 years.
I love the parallels between great athletes and great performers in life. The backdrop of my first book is all about how great teams use “deliberate practice” to get better.
I’ve been trying to get better since shooting hoops as a little kid in my front yard for hours
I study Buddhism as a mindset, not a religion.
I love studying people. We need more effective leaders in the world today. More loving compassion. More mindfulness. More peace More laughter.
