Today we’d like to introduce you to Perla Isabel and Jacob Tony.
Perla and Jacob, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Twelfth House was conceptualized in early 2019 by two local creatives who were looking for a space that would allow them to flourish as artists. The vision was simple, to create a safe environment where like-minded spirits could tune into their inner child, play, dance, and be their most Authentic Higher-self.
April’s fiery, aries energy was the theme to our first gathering: a concept process that would help pave the way to this new venture. Local Food Vendors, Artists, DJs, Fire Jugglers, Photographers, and amazing friends all came together to make this magical night come to life. One year later, the impact is seen through the works of art inspired by the connections interwoven at these Creative Social’s.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As Event Creators, it’s a crucial responsibility to do everything we can to maintain public safety; Twelfth House halted all shows as soon as the stay-at-home order commenced. Adapting and catering to this sudden shift was bittersweet, but smooth nonetheless. The events moved from an Art Gallery to the Virtual World. With one obstacle tackled, a new hurdle arose. Protests flooded the streets of Phoenix with warriors fighting against social injustice. Unfortunately, during this time, a separate group made ALAC (Arizona Latino Arts and Cultural Center) the target for vandalism. The gallery is an NPO (Non-profit Organization) that solely depends on public funding and Grants to stay afloat. Once this occurred, ALAC reached out to the community for assistance through a fundraiser. “Seeing everyone’s support was very beautiful.” Though what happened was upsetting, The silver-lining is a community of Passionate and Supportive Creatives that will come together to help no matter the circumstance.
We’d love to hear more about Twelfth House.
Idealistic, young, and inventive: An energy felt within everyone that is a part of Twelfth House. Each member plays an important role through their artistic abilities and positive outlooks. Twelfth House was welcomed to help the struggling Art Gallery with what is now known as the “Creative Social” by Twelfth House. The Team showcases all talent Phoenix has to offer. Throughout 2019 all events were planned and organized monthly, each being unique from the last. The Collective believes in a community of inclusivity and diversity. They display this with the various genres of music and art forms that can be found in these Creative Social’s. The year 2020 truly reinvented the creative processes. Twelfth House promises to re-open the gallery for events once it is safe for the public.
Through Art, Music, and creative expression, magical experiences are created for everyone to submerge themselves in.
