Meet Paul Coen of LJ Refrigeration in North Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Coen.

Paul, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
LJ Refrigeration is a family owned and operated company in the valley since 1981. My wife and I are third generation. She runs the office and I’m out in the service field every day. We moved out here 20 years ago, from Southern California, shortly after having our daughter and getting married. I was an HVAC tech for another company, and it just made sense to come out to Phoenix and work for the “family business”. We always say it was the best decision of our lives.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It certainly hasn’t always been smooth. Working with family has its ups and downs; it’s definitely not for everyone. But for Jen and I, it has made us stronger as a couple, and a stronger team within our business. We were basically kids when we moved out here. All we had was each other, our family and our business. All three seem to correlate and still do. For example, dinner discussion can be mistaken as company meetings, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We love our customers.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with LJ Refrigeration – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
LJ Refrigeration is an HVAC company. We service and repair heating and air conditioning equipment, and install new equipment as well. Being that we are a third generation family owned and operated a company in the valley for over 35 years, we pride ourselves on being honest and reliable.

I am most proud of maintaining lasting relationships with my customers and just being honest with them. For example, if you need a new HVAC unit, the tech installing your equipment will be the same one coming out to service it for years to come. It’s a lasting relationship that we value greatly.

What sets us apart is that we treat customers the way we would want to be treated. I’m a person of integrity, and far too often I hear of homeowners being taken advantage of in our industry. I don’t upsell, I don’t add things you don’t need. If it’s broke, I’ll come fix it. I’ll give you my honest professional opinion because I value the people who call on us and I just want to take care of people.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Plans for the future are to continue to give the best service to our customers, and we are always looking for ways to become more efficient and effective to the benefit of our customers. For example, on our website, we now have a troubleshooting feature.
