Meet Patricia Scheurich

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Scheurich.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I live in Phoenix, Arizona and love the winters here! There is so much open sky and the sunsets are technicolor! I hike and bike and sometimes swim for my exercise and find satisfaction in cooking. I love salads, soups and homemade cookies, but I don’t like macaroni and cheese!

Louisiana, Montana and Florida were three places I lived before I was six. I don’t remember many things about them because I moved to Phoenix after that. I’m lucky to have traveled to many other countries and enjoyed the adventures and inspiration it gave my work. I am a contemporary aqua media and mixed media painter. I earned my degree in Fine Arts from Northern Arizona University and have worked as a professional artist for over 30 years

Early in my career, I worked as a commercial artist for several advertising agencies in Tucson and Phoenix. While my children were young, I started doing mural art, faux finishing, and Trompe l’ oeil – with an ever-expanding client base that kept me busy for more than a decade. Finally, with children entering adulthood, I made a full-time commitment to studio work and teaching, with my canvases being purchased by both commercial and private clients.

Please tell us about your art.
I use Golden liquid acrylics and mediums along with stencils, metal leaf, collage papers and I enjoy experimenting with all sorts of techniques, often while listening to opera music. Lately, I’ve tried a few book tapes, but my favorite is simply the sound of the birds twittering and calling outside the studio doors. I usually buy my art supplies at my favorite store, Arizona Art Supply. I work traditionally and have for many years, but recently I’ve started to explore art digitally with my new iPad pro and with Adobe Photoshop.

Why I make art is a question I have asked myself many times. I think it is because of a fascination with the natural world, which engages my senses and imagination, and fills me with wonder. Everything around me is inspiration. Making art means everything to me, so I am excited to start every new work. Producing the art is always a struggle and nothing is ever created in the same way. I truly love the process. And, I cherish the satisfaction in finally creating something interesting and beautiful.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
My best advice is to have a fall back job or plan to support you while you explore making your art career a lucrative one. It’s a long game that you’re playing and you need focus and a business plan.

I have recently taken some classes that are very helpful for my current interest in licensing my images. http://www.makeartthatsells.com has some great classes. I also have educated myself further with online classes thru http://www.skillshare.com. If you are more interested in showing and selling in galleries, join some local artist guilds because they are great ways to connect, learn and show your work.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My website is http://www.patscheurich.com and my Instagram is http://instagram.com/patscheurichdesigns.
Work can be seen through both of those venues as well as contacting me through them. My painting sales are linked with https://squareup.com/store/patscheurich.

My website lists any local upcoming art shows in the Phoenix area. I am available for licensing any of my images. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to see more work or discuss product licensing.
