Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Wyatt.
Paige, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved here from Boston three years ago. How I ended up in Arizona, and where I am today is all due to one HUGE inhale of hope and exhale of “here goes nothing attitude.”
I grew up in a small town back in New Hampshire. Once I was ready to leave my small country nest I made my way down to the well-known city of Boston, Massachusetts where I finished graduated from college receiving my Bachelor’s of Science Degree, my major was fashion and retail merchandising, with a minor law and business. It’s safe to say I never had that initial instinct of purely knowing what I wanted to do for a career.
I struggled with this simply because I have a passion for so many different interests, how can I choose to focus my energy on one job? With that being said I stayed in the city and built my career right out of college. I traveled a lot like Vice President of a Greeting Card Company. My role was more of an entrepreneur position, which surprisingly could not have been a better fit for me (all aligns with who I am today).
One month our company had the opportunity to partake in a trade show in Las Vegas, mind you I traveled a lot but NEVER to the west coast (actually in my entire life). That quick, sleepless three night trip ended up turning my entire life upside down (for the better).
I met my now fiancé standing in line on my second to last night in Vegas. Long story short he was there on business too and went out to explore Vegas like myself on a random Tuesday night. We got to talking and planned to have dinner together the following night before I jumped on the red-eye back to Boston.
We stayed in touch once I got back to Boston, and no I am absolutely not making this up, as I know it sounds like out of a Hallmark movie, but that’s exactly what it was. He swept me off my feet. We managed to grow and bond over constant phone calls facetime sessions, as we juggled the time difference and our busy schedules.
I’ll be honest, I’m not great at the long distance dating, so I made the decision that if I was gonna make this relationship work, I was moving to ARIZONA! Two months after we met, he flew to Boston helped pack me up from my tiny apartment (which by the way cost WAY more than a house mortgage here in Arizona), met my family and drove in my tiny car all the way cross country to his home here Arizona! Now it is no longer his home but OUR home.
Flash-forward, to the fact that I had no plan, left my job (with the proper notice of course), and was set out to start fresh with a man who I in reality barely knew. YUP, I know red flag central…. however, in this case, that red flag turned out to be green. I bounced from job to job for the next few months; however, each job leads me to the next job I took.
I went from a intake buyer/web photographer for a retail clothing company, to a creative design manager for a locally owned Scottsdale Jewelry company ( that is actually huge, and featured in sports illustrated, Anthropologie etc…) to a business development manager for a mortgage company to NOW my ever developing career in REAL ESTATE!
Honestly, if I could say one thing out of all of the long tangled web of a story I have shared so far, it’s “Trust your journey.” I without a doubt believe I found and needed all of those jobs for a reason, that reason being it has now brought me to this Career, which I am so eager to grow! When you come to the line on this interview that asks what my career is, what my business startup is (I can feel the many cringed teeth and possibly eye rolls), as the words “ Real Estate Agent” roll off my tong, because truth be told everyone knows someone who’s a realtor.
That’s great because If you do give them a pat on the back because this career is not easy for one second! This is a sale job mind you, our financial stability is at risk, our relationships with friends, family, and significant others are at risk. Why because on a daily basis we are faced with the challenge of ….. do I pick up the phone at 8 pm during our family dinner because it could potentially be business or do I kindly decline and continue my conversation do to possibly upsetting someone if I answer my phone.
There is absolutely no guarantee of success with any small startup business, and we all know most small businesses fail in the first two years. I grew up with parents who I watched strive to reach their own personal goals of owning their own business and as I watched ALL the ups and downs, but I learned a lot from them!
Mainly I learned not to let what others think of me stop me from achieving my dreams! I may not be from Arizona, but that absolutely does not mean for one second I don’t know the real estate market better than an agent who is part-time and has lived here for 30+ years. I absolutely work around the clock (because I love my job, and what small business owner is successful working 9-5pm and then hitting an off button for business), I without a doubt put my clients first and bend over backwards to make sure I am the best advocate for them as I can possibly be.
On top of all of that, I am on a real estate TEAM, and there is no “ I “in team, so this article about my business truly means it’s also about all of them! I would not be where I am today without the ladies of the AZ Home Team. I work well with others, I learn from others, but mostly I appreciate that form of tough love, and that is what you get with such powerful role models, like these ladies.
Have I felt like a failure, YES? Have I cried my eyes out due to silly mistakes, YES? Have I wanted to walk away from this career? No. I say no because this team has given me the transparent, tough, sole hearted truth of the every day uphill battles this industry has to give. They have also shown me how truly rewarding and fulfilling all this is as well. I am proud to say I am Arizona Real Estate Agent!
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I know most agents have there “WHY” clearly defined. While my business is still growing I feel my why is too. I like to use the slogan “Turn The Paige”, because I want you to turn the page of your own with me( Paige ) ! Buying a house, selling, renting, building or investing, the list goes on, but regardless of what you choose to do it is a big decision, and it is the start of a NEW chapter in your own life book!
As I mentioned before I come with a vast variety of interest, so all my different areas of knowledge come in handy in this industry. I have a fashion history, so I know design, layout, and architecture. I have a background in law, so negotiation, contracts, and formal binding documents are up my alley. I have an eye for photography, while I can do it myself at this time I vet it us to my trusted vendors, who if I do say, so myself produce exceptional photos when it comes to listing your home!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Favorite memory from my childhood is definitely our family fourth of July kayaking trip! About 40 of us from my mom’s side of the family would all head up to Pittsburg NH and paddle down the Connecticut River. We would spend all day going down that river, eat, drink, play games, and much more! Each year there would be a different story that came with this trip!
One of the favorites would be when a thunderstorm came quick, and out of nowhere so we all had to scramble to get off the river ASAP! I had to climb up a river bank which was now a mud bank in my white shorts (why I chose to be stylish on the river, beats me) and for the life of me I could not get up that bank, I kept sliding back down, and when anyone would try to help me get up, I would end up pulling them back down with me!
It was just a moment of non-stop laughter while still be terrified I was going to somehow get hit by lightning!
