Today we’d like to introduce you to Oroma Amesi.
Oroma, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well my story starts in the year of 2015. I was in a position in my life where I wasn’t happy about how I looked and my health was taking a major impact. I was nearly 70 pounds overweight at 5’2, which was unbelievable. Through the stressors of life, I neglected my health and wasn’t really proud of it. I remember when I wanted to take a picture in my favorite dress, I broke down and cried and realize that I’m not me. I wasn’t able to dance due to my complication and breathing.
Knowing that my overall goal is be a Doctor Of Physical Therapy, I realize how can I help others make healthy changes in their life when I haven’t even made the first step. It was that year 2015. I decided to go on this journey, which changes my life for the better. A few years later, with enough confidence and consistency, I decided to start my own group fitness class and personal training. The rest is history
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always been smooth. Some people don’t understand that starting any type of business takes hard work, consistent and faith. You have to believe in your own product or no one else will. Some of the struggles I had along the way is finding the perfect studio, dates, timing and will people actually come. I can have a class that 10+ will attend, and some days I had when no one show up. But I couldn’t give up or let me stop when I had to do. I’m here to show others that being physically active can be fun.
ORO Fitness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I graduate from ASU 2018 with a degree in Exercise Science. My knowledge when it comes to the body and fitness/nutrition has given me the ability to help others reach their fitness goal. I specialize in group training, which is what my company is known for. I teach and Afro-Beat High Intense Interval Training class. This class consists of music from diaspore of African music while incorporating African movements within exercise training. I wanted to add two things together that I love, which is dance and fitness. I am most proud that I took the first step and haven’t looked bad. What sets me apart from others is that I’m educated in this field, have a full background experience of teaching and dance, as well as growing up on a Nigerian household. Understanding and knowing the culture of dance movement has help me gain an audience who wants to learn and stay active.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success as having a sense of purpose your goals you want to achieve and making that vision come true. Attaining more knowledge, learning from your mistakes and taking accountability helps you along the path. Willing to take positive feedback and molding it into your vision for continuing success.
