Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Mayernick.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I started photography fresh out of high school, I went to College for Art and Photography for a semester when I decided to just get out and learn on my own! I was 18 and bought my first DSLR. I haven’t stopped learning and growing since then. It’s been seven years now of shooting and 3 years of business.
I found out just a few years ago that not only was my Papa very into cameras and photography, his father was as well, I’m now the third generation of photographers! I also have their collections of cameras too which is such a neat thing to have.
I actually started my career thinking I wanted to be a newborn photographer, and over the past year, I fell in LOVE with photographing couples and weddings. I legitimately never thought I would be a wedding photographer and now it is all I desire to do with my career. In fact, within the next two years, we plan to take our business, and life on the road full time for destination couples and elopement photography!
In 2014, we packed up and moved to California for a summer, on the way we stopped in Pheonix for a few days and fell in love with the state, and the desert so we are heading back for two weeks this summer to shoot in our favorite places!
Please tell us about your art.
I am a couples and elopement photographer! I very much love instilling a sense of adventure, and wild to my sessions, I take time to become my couples friend through the entire process so that I can truly capture who they are in the most authentic way ever! I don’t ever want someone to leave our experience thinking they hired just any photographer who only cares about their business. This is so much more than that for me, this is not only my career, it’s my life, my passion, my everything. I want my clients to leave their session feeling good about it, not worried or anxious hoping we got a few good photos. I want them to KNOW that we made the most of their time and that they were served well. Ultimately my clients knowing that I truly love what I do through how I treat them is most important!
What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I truly feel like the community has grown SO much since I first started, there are so many incredible artists encouraging community over competition right now, myself included! I think it’s super important to help educate not only other artists but the community of “clients” out there. Art is so subjective that often times it’s very undervalued. If we continue to support and encourage the community around us we can bring more awareness to the value of the industry!
I think it’s very important in any place to just encourage group meetups for artists, and really instill a sense of community for those of us who are solo artists!
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I am very active on my Instagram, @mrs.mayernick and almost as active on my Facebook as well (Wildflower Collective)! Plus I blog on my website and keep my portfolio up to date there as well! Instagram is truly the best way to get the full inside to my life, my business, and my travels.
