Meet Olivia Duenas Alcala of Rejuvenating Skin Studio in Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Duenas Alcala.

Olivia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Mexico and came to the United States when I was 9 years old. I’ve lived in Arizona since then. My biggest accomplishment was to become a US Citizen two years ago. I am happily married and have an 8 yr. old daughter. My passion for esthetics grew when I dealt with acne as a teenager and adulthood. I went through the frustration of many failed attempts to clear this skin condition. It was only natural for me to go to SWINA (Southwest Institute of Natural Aesthetics) to educate myself and obtain the necessary tools to be able to help others who also struggle with feeling confident in their own skin. I decided to open my own business soon after graduating from school. It’s been a year and a half of being a business owner and it’s been hard at times but it’s so rewarding. I love meeting new clients and making a change not only on their skin but in their life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was hard to build up my clientele the first year. The rent is not cheap and if you are not booked it can be hard to pay the bills. It was also hard to figure out how to do my books and inventory, but it got better. It’s hard to find a balance between work and my personal life.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I do a little bit of everything. I offer Facials, Dermaplaning, Microneedling, Lash Lifts, Waxing, and Tinting. My specialty would have to be Facials. I love making people feel relaxed and beautiful. I also specialize in Brazilian waxing. I’m proud to provide the best facial service using high-quality skincare lines yet keeping it affordable for my clients. My clients choose to see me because we build a personal relationship and when I’m with them they are my only focus.

What were you like growing up?
I was very much a tomboy. I loved to play with cars, marbles, Nintendo and didn’t like barbies or girl toys. I grew up with a lot of cousins and was very competitive. I was very responsible at a young age because I had to help my mom with my younger siblings.
