Meet Alison and Marsha of Noble Beast a Natural Market for Pets in Uptown Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison and Marsha.

Thanks for sharing your story with us. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Noble Beast was started by two local Arizona gals in 2007. Marsha and Alison met in High School, we attended Chaparral High School in Scottsdale. We just celebrated the store’s 10th anniversary last November.

In 2003 I (Alison) got my first dog and wanted to feed a raw food diet. At that time there was only one store that sold raw diets and that was in North Scottsdale. One day while driving home from the store I thought “why isn’t there a natural pet product store in Central Phoenix”? I had wanted to start my own business for a while, and now I had a perfect idea and an untapped market. I did research about natural pet foods and products, attended trade shows and looked for a place to rent in Uptown Phoenix near my home. Marsha jumped on board as she too was looking for a new chapter to her life.

The recession hit just as soon as we got our business loans! We did all the demo and remodeling work ourselves, and with the help of our friends. They were paid with pizza and beer. We learned very quickly how manage a business in a down market and slowly, very slowly we grew our shop. We joined Local First Arizona immediately. Kimber Lanning’s brain child was key to helping our store succeed and thrive. Shop Local!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
1st struggle was the Recession in 2007, Starting a new business is risky enough in a good economy. We felt confident that we could make a success of the business with blood, sweat and tears if we could just survive that 1st year in business.

Five other Natural Pet Product stores have emerged in Central Phoenix since we opened our doors. That was nail biting for us. We lost a few customers but most returned. We do our best to offer amazing customer service. Customer service with a smile is critical. We train our staff about the products we carry, so that they can assist and educate the customer. I think that is key to why our customers have remained so loyal to the Beast.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Noble Beast, Natural Market for Pets – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Noble Beast is a natural pet market in uptown Phoenix. We sell carefully curated food and supplies for dogs, cats and chickens. We specialize in nutrition consultations for pets with allergies or health issues that require special diets. We also have a good selection of natural remedies and supplements. We are most proud that we have the same core staff as we did when we opened our doors in 2007. This results in a superior experience for our customers as our staff has years of experience and knowledge about the products we carry. We have many customers who have been with us since the beginning–we have seen them through their pet’s entire life! Our personal service, low prices and a non-corporate atmosphere are the main things that set us apart from other pet supply stores. Our store has a quirky, small town feeling to it. We love to carry locally-produced items and things that you won’t see in other stores.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We recently expanded our offerings for felines, giving them their own sweet room. We see a bigger need for goodies for the urban chicken keepers too. Expansion is also a possibility, if we can ensure the same charm and service level can be maintained.
