Meet Nikki Hellwig of Citrine Organic Spray Tans & Body Care in Arcadia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Hellwig.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been getting spray tanned for ages now. I feel my best with a healthy glow. A few years back, I had just entered my 30s, was feeling like I was at a standstill in my corporate marketing career, and things were seeming pretty gloomy. During this time, I was offered the opportunity to become airbrush spray tan certified and start my own business. Despite being terrified at the thought of starting a whole new career at the age of 30, I decided to jump in head first!

I quit my job, traveled for a few weeks, and came home refreshed and ready to make my moves. I instantly fell in love with spray tanning. I loved the way my clients looked after, how they felt, and how their confidence grew from just a little tan! I finally feel like I have found my true calling. With spray tanning, I can help people look good on the outside and feel good on the inside.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business definitely isn’t easy. I’ve had my ups and downs and moments of wanting to quit. The hardest part of starting up is capital. Other than some help from my family, I’ve financed my business on my own and to do that I work extra jobs. It gets a little draining at times, but I know it’ll be worth it in the end!

Please tell us about Citrine Organic Spray Tans & Body Care.
I offer organic spray tans, airbrush body contouring, and natural teeth whitening. I want my clients to look like they have a natural tan so I make sure every clients gets a solution that works well with their skin tone and ends up with that perfect sun-kissed glow. Airbrush body contouring is definitely a great extra service to add to a spray tan. I contour each section of the client’s body in order to get their natural muscles to POP! This gives the client an even more lean and toned appearance – everyone loves it!

I’m also getting ready to launch a spray tan certification course. I want to share my knowledge of the art of spray tanning with others and give them the tools and know-how to start their own spray tanning business.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
I get a large sense of pride watching my business grow and thrive. I have many exciting ideas planned for the business, I can’t wait to see them come to fruition and have my business grow even more!
