Meet Nicole Edson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Edson.

Hi Nicole, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My love for photography and the arts was when my grandparents handed down a film camera that they had used in their travels around the world.

From there, I started photographing everything in sight and followed it up by taking several art/photography classes which led me to become the yearbook/newspaper photo editor my senior year in high school.

Having the opportunity to photograph all school events, sports and clubs allowed me to gain experience in many different events and subjects I was able to learn how to tell and capture the story.

This experience only catapulted me even further into the world of photography which also led me to pursue a career in photography.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Photography has come very naturally to me, second nature if you will, and having experience early on in my photography career set me up for success for all the years since then.

I was able to get comfortable shooting individual subjects, sports, and many types of events that varied in size, and having my own camera meant I had freedom at my fingertips. The biggest struggle that I’ve had along the path of my photography career is making the choice and taking the chance to pursue it full-time.

Photography isn’t typically the type of career that can guarantee business as it literally fluctuates throughout the year. The unknown of running a photography business was the biggest obstacle in my way and it required me to take a leap of faith and “go all-in” to make my dreams a reality.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a fellow creative with a love for many art forms but my favorite and what I would consider my specialty would be photography.

I am most proud of my ability to capture the energy, vibrancy, and candid nature of events and the people involved. What sets me apart is the extensive and diverse background experience I have shot many types of photography jobs and events.

Some might say my shooting style is abstract, documentary/chronological and gallery style photography.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would suggest starting with your inner circle, surrounding yourself with fellow creatives or people that are passionate, and thinking outside the box.

If you want to be a specific type of artist or photographer specifically then choose to be around like-minded individuals. Remain open-minded, don’t be afraid to ask questions or put yourself out there and lastly, introduce yourself and your work to as many people as you can.

Invest in others that encourage you and/or spark your creative mindset and abilities. Follow, find and harness the passion of as many creatives as you are able to find, build a community and lastly do the same for the next one in line and mentor others.
