Today we’d like to introduce you to Nico Smith.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
From a young age, whenever I was asked what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, I would respond, artist. As hobbies, I have owned an Etsy shop where I sold hand-made and painted wood signs, made multiple wedding cakes and sugar cookies for parties, and have taken pictures for friends and family for fun. However, once I got to college, I changed gears and graduated from Arizona State with a degree in Nutrition. I worked for a few years in multiple different hospitals and was not loving it anymore like I thought I would. In January of this year, after much support and encouragement from those close to me, I quit my full-time job as a Dietetic Technician and started Nico Marie Photo. The hard work to get my business up and thriving has been nothing but amazing, and my only regret is that I didn’t start sooner.
Please tell us about your art.
I absolutely love love, and I believe that life is just overflowing with love waiting to be captured. I am a wedding and lifestyle photographer, which gives me the ability to see a small glimpse into the lives’ of others and share what makes their love unique. I hope that my clients and their families and friends who see the images from our sessions see something that accurately portrays the love shared between those in the image.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Start now! Start now! Start now! When I first decided that I loved photography and could see myself doing this for the rest of my life, it took more than a year, moving to two states, and plenty of encouragement from my loved ones to pull the trigger and start an Instagram profile to share my photographs online. I cannot even imagine where my business would be now if I had taken the leap of faith back then, even during the evenings after work.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My work can be found on my website: www.nicomariephoto.com my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/nicomariephotography/ or on my Instagram: @nicomariephoto
Engaging with posts on social media, whether it be as small as a like on a photograph or as big as sharing an Instagram post to a story, helps small business (like mine!) flourish and grow like you wouldn’t believe. The more eyes that see my work, and the more people I meet through the community online, help me to get to capture more love in the greater Phoenix area community every day.
