Meet Nicholas Corona

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Corona.

Nicholas, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a kid, I always like to draw. From that, I learned and grew to know other aspects of art, which ultimately lead me in high school to want to be a graphic designer. I went to community college and ultimately to Northern Arizona University, where I graduated with my BFA in Visual Communication. After that, I applied places with the little experience I had, a small internship and a few freelance logos.

I did manage to find a full-time job that can get my foot into the wider industry. Now wanting to put my creative passion into full swing, I started my Nick Corona Design on Instagram at first to showcase my talents and get myself to experiment and show potential clients what I am able to do. I still have a long way to go, but I’m confident nothing can stop me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The job search was grueling. Everyone wants a graduate to have 2 to 3 years of experience right out of college. So needless to say, it’s been a bumpy road. A lot of rejection can take its toll on you from time to time but you just gotta push forward.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Mostly, I like to design logos and identity systems. That was something I always liked to do in school. I think what distinguishes me is that I don’t adhere to a distinct style. I certainly have my preferences but it’s important for a designer to be flexible to meet the needs of the people and companies that hire them.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Well, I’m certainly lucky to be born into this age of technology. Design is more important now than ever and the internet is able to provide that gate to reach people out beyond their city borders.
