Meet Newt Grover of Newt Glass

Today we’d like to introduce you to Newt Grover.

Newt, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I saw a Chihuly documentary on PBS in the mid-’90s. I told my wife I had to do this, it was the coolest thing I had ever seen! In Phoenix at that time, there were no glass blowing studios. I had to actually had to build my own glass studio just to learn how to blow glass. It took about eight months of research and fabrication to finish. It took about two years to get ” comfortable” with glass and another year to making some money. At first, I made bowls, vases, plates, and other small goods. I realized smaller parts could be used for constructing larger chandeliers and sculptures. I liked the challenge of figuring out how to bring the client’s vision to life. I have been very fortunate to have my talents and gifts intersect with great clients that were willing to take a leap of faith with me. Now I work all over the country, get to work with amazing clients in awesome places. Sometimes I can’t believe the amount of beauty I have put into the world. My mission statement is “Put beauty into the world” Simple yet effective.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m always encountering challenges because I choose to stretch, push the envelope, and go beyond what I think I can do. I do not want to get stuck doing the same thing. The obstacle is the way sometimes. I get up every morning and get to it. Nothing stops me for long. I love what I do. I just keep pushing forward and most obstacles just fall by the wayside.

Please tell us more about your work.
I specialize in chandeliers, large wall and plate displays and metal and glass sculptures. I put “the cherry on top”, the” wow factor ” or finishing touch of the project. I am one of the select few that can or will do these large projects. I am both fortunate and honored to be a part of these important projects. I work with my clients closely to assure they get the absolutely best outcome possible.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Scottsdale has been home to me for 60 years. I travel often and love it, though I still love living here. Large enough metro area, but easy to get around. Also a high degree of culture and affluent, nice and successful people. Weather is excellent most of the year.
