Meet Neal Karlin of Downtown Smiles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neal Karlin.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and graduated from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry – the first dental school in the world! I enjoy all aspects of dentistry and I have always wanted to run a dental practice providing a positive and caring experience for all of my patients. I am thrilled to offer dental care at my brand new office, Downtown Smiles, whereby my goal is to promote optimal oral health, prevent oral disease, and help all of my patients to maintain their beautiful smiles.

My office utilizes the most up-to-date technology, including 3D imaging which allows me and my amazing staff to provide our patients with state-of-the-art dental care. When I am not practicing dentistry, I am outside enjoying the natural beauty here in Arizona. I lead an active lifestyle, and my favorite sports are hiking, biking and pickleball.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I had to overcome many challenges, as you can imagine, building my dental practice from scratch. I put a lot of time and effort into finding the perfect location and I am thrilled that I chose Downtown Phoenix. This location is so convenient for the folks that work and live downtown. I have decided to offer morning, evening, and weekend hours to make it easy for people who live and work downtown to have access to dental care.

We’ve been impressed with Downtown Smiles, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are excited to introduce Downtown Smiles Dental Care Phoenix, a state-of-the-art dental practice led by Dr. Neal Karlin. Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most of my patients may not know that I moved to Arizona in June 2016 mostly due to the beautiful year-round sunshine! I take full advantage of the opportunities to hike, bike, and play pickleball. I won the silver medal in the Arizona Grand Slam Pickleball Tournament in February 2022 in Mesa.

Another accomplishment that I am so proud of is completing the challenge of “The Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim-to Rim” which is a very tough run that I did in May 2022. This is a 46-mile hike with 11,000 feet of elevation and I was able to do this in just 2 days! Wish me luck because I am going to attempt to do this again in May of this year.
