Today we’d like to introduce you to N!C .
Hi N!C, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a musical family. My mom has always been a singer and has sung in church my entire life. My grandfather was in a band when he was younger, and growing up, I always watched him play the piano, organ, and bass in church. My older brother also plays the drums and has recently gotten into producing. I started making music when I was around 12 years old when my grandfather taught me how to play the piano. From then on, I became interested in becoming just a producer. Initially, I didn’t consider being an artist because I was too scared to be in the spotlight. It wasn’t until after graduating high school that I tried writing and recording my songs. At first, I kept my songs to myself and only showed them to my closest friends. My friends always encouraged me to keep making songs because they believed I could make a name for myself if I took music seriously. At the time, I was getting into college; I was playing football and mainly focused on having a career after school so I didn’t have to move back into my parent’s house after graduation. I wasn’t worried about music because making a living off of music seemed too intangible at the time. Two years after I graduated college, I was living in Texas and had been in my career and having success, but I had realized that my chosen career wasn’t fulfilling me how I thought it would. So I kind of just said “f- it” and quit my job, moved back to my hometown in North Carolina, and decided to give making music a real shot. I have had many ups and downs trying to pursue music, but I am grateful to have seen growth and gained much experience. There are great people in my life who have helped me grow as an artist.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, but anything worth having will take much work. One of my earliest struggles was finding my identity as an artist. Before taking music seriously, I was mainly making songs for fun. I was putting less effort into the lyrics or production to create songs that sounded like my favorite artists. When it was time to take it seriously, I realized I couldn’t keep copying the artist I liked because I would never establish my identity. It took a lot of long nights and bad songs that will never see the light of day to develop the sound I have made for myself now. The issue I currently need is visibility. Social media and the music industry are so saturated with so many different people nowadays that it is often challenging to gain visibility or draw attention to what you are doing as an individual. But the most important thing is to stay consistent and trust that your music will speak for itself and that the right people will find you when it comes.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer, rapper, and songwriter from Raleigh, NC. I moved to Phoenix last year with my manager. I have been putting out music since 2020 and constantly grow and challenge myself with each new release. I am most proud of my single, ‘Tea Leaves’, because it has garnered me more streams than I have ever had before and is opening up doors to allow my other songs to be in the spotlight. My versatility and willingness to grow and be challenged sets me apart.
